I've been told by my co-teacher that it is not possible to get wireless internet here even with the wireless router.
I have a hard time believing this. I taught Korean students in the U.S. all year last year and they told me the opposite.
What's up with that? |

Your co-teacher is one of those stubbornly clueless. They don't know the answer so they'll choose a random one and say it with the utmost confidence, even if it's wrong. You just learned a lot about their personality!
Yes, you can use a router with your wired internet connection - no problem. There are also free and paid hotspots around the big cities - especially seoul. There's a service called Nespot that many people use that provides wireless internet.
WiBRO is in trials now and will be widely available soon. (wider-area coverage than Wifi) |

I just turned on the Airport on my MacBook and was given a couple of options of wireless networks to join, including Nespot and Anygate. Must be because I live near a big hotel, and about 20 freakin' Starsucks.
Korea invented the bloody Internet, of course you can use wireless Internet here! |

Korea is probably more advanced in the Internet and wireless technology than the US.
Koreans call themselves "the netizens." |

When i first arrived in Korea, I didn't have internet service for almost two months. I used a few PC bangs, but mostly I'd hang out at this bench in a neighboring apartment complex and choose between the various available networks.
Why wouldn't wireless work here? Korean radiowaves are different? |

She's not an idiot. She probably just means that she doesn't think it's available where I am. I'm going to see if I can get a router.
Does anyone have any suggestions for where to get one? I'm in Namyangju City. I don't know if it's considered rural or not but I still feel like I should be able to get wireless.
Is it expensive to get a router here? |

Ask 10 different Koreans what color the sky is and you will get ten different answers.
Many Koreans do not like to admit that they don't know something so they'll just make stuff up.
For others, their answer will depend on their mood at a particular moment.
And for many more, they may answer according to what they think you want to hear, or to spin a positive image of their country to the foreign visitor, and so on and so forth.
Wait, come to think of it, maybe I'm just talking about Dave's ESL Cafe! |

60k -100k won at in the computer section of your favorite department store.
40k won at Yongsan.
Take it out of the box.
Plug the power into the wall..
Plug the network cable into your house connection.
Bob's yur Uncle... hook up to your new wireless connection... (you and all your neighbors unless you secure it). |
