Hey everyone. I've done the hagwon thing for a couple years but just got a job teaching at a university. I feel quite inexperienced with the whole adult/giant classes (40 students!) thing and am wondering if you can recommend a book or two to help me. Maybe one practical and one theoretical? |

You're a uni teacher now, and your students are of-age.
Even still, you must be a good teacher and keep a solid teacher/student distance between.
This doesn't however, mean that you can't introduce your students to some of your friends.
Maybe they can study this:

No, but we have to ask...
Can your buddies here on Dave's be your friends? |

Jazz English 1 & 2 are good practical books for conversation topics relevant to university students (such as dating, nightlife etc). |

Funny how teachers with no knowledge of teaching adults can get uni gigs these days...
If you can, try and observe some of your colleague's classes to get a taster.
Take a TEFL course (serious).
For some free online resources that have some pointers on adult teaching methodology (no substitute from training in situ, though) scroll down to 'T' for 'Teacher Training' on my link below. From that, I've just been looking at http://exchanges.state.gov/forum/vols/vol43/no2/p24.htm, for one example of getting some new ideas for myself (many more ideas amongst them). Andrew Finch is also uni teacher in Korea who has put a lot of his ideas and materials on line, too (see also 'T' index on link below). |
