Chicago (2 days) - Why even bother?

You dismiss chicago?? I really don't like the midwest but love chicago. Are you nuts? have you even been to chicago? The art institute is world famous. It has some great neighborhoods. Michigan ave is fun to walk down. Wrigley Field is awesome, regardless if you like baseball or not.
In regards to LA, I used to dismiss it since I have to, being a norcal native and all, but after a couple months here in San Diego, it looks pretty good to me these days. |

Try a driveaway car!
People need their cars moved and pay a company to do it. They let you drive it to the destination for the price of gas. You get to plan your own route and the time allotment is somewhat generous.
In 2000, my friend and I drove one car from LA to New Hampshire, stopping in Vegas, Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Chicago and NY on the way. Then we picked up another car in Boston and drove it to Santa Barbara, stopping in New Orleans (and keeping the car in L.A. for a week b/c it was better than mine ).
It is hit or miss whether you can get one going to where you are going, but if you're willing to then take the bus/train, it could be a good start, especially in the West.
