There are not many restaurants in Seoul I go back to twice (besides Lotteria). But this tapas place is good stuff. Never been to Spain (but one of the bloggers above has and it passed muster) but I've had tapas in Toronto (no shortage of authentic ethnic cuisine there) and Seattle (everything tends to get dumbed down for whitey). This Korean tapas place in Hogdae pretty much nails it. A mite on the price side. A great date restaurant. Not big and the place fills up quickly. Another good sign. |

MM2's on the spot with this, and he's right that it's a bit pricey, which means it's once-ce in a while kind of place. Good food, atmosphere elegant yet comfortable, and the location is central to a lot of the clubbing spots, so you can dance the food off afterwards. Tried the tapas at one or two other places and decided I liked this one better. |

Tapas bars in Hongdae. I've now seen it all. People living in Seoul do not have a right to complain about any kind of food or drink, ever. |

Toronto has very large ethnic communities upon which restaurants can draw their customers. Indian restaurants can make their food as spicy as they would back in India and have enough Indian expats to keep their restaurant alive. In smaller cities and cities not noted for taking great waves of immigrants (ie Seattle), ethnic restaurants find they have to appeal to indigenous tastes. Whitey. They have to dumb down their recipes.
Whitey can mean many things. I used it synonymous with "mangia cake".

Actually there appears to be another one across from the Krispy Kream. Did not try that place. I'm not sure what you mean by people don't have a right to complain.
I remember once I went to this place in Seoul advertising gyros. Meat on a pita with lettuce and thousand island dressing, it turns out, doesn't make it gyros. Anyway, I mentioned that on a blog and someone who has never lived in Seoul was like "wow imagine you can't get authentic greek food in Seoul".
I thought a moment. I've had Mexican food in Seoul (Chili Chili's) that I was pleased with but if I was served that in Detroit's Mexican town I'd walk away from without paying. There is a certain wiggle room we grant here in Seoul. "Wow, this is about as close as they'll get it!" That tends to be the metric.
So when one complains, one complains on the basis "did they actually try to get it close? Or did they just look at a picture and made it based on a guess as to the ingredients?" |

I guess what I mean is, you're really spoiled for choice in Seoul now. Here in the 'country' haute cuisine is Outback or TGIF. |

If you walked out of any restaurant in Detroit without paying you'd be gangbanged and possibly shot. |

What's the name of this large ethnic neighborhood coming from Spain that has settled in Toronto?
I never heard of large Spain-Spain immigrants creating large ethnic neighborhoods in Canada. |

First, I'm speaking in general, not of the Spanish specifically. However, there is a large Portuguese community and Portuguese also eat tapas. And I'm sure one is not above a bait n switch. A large number of Japanese sushi places in Toronto are run by Koreans, for example. |
