I got fired for this post: http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?p=1302184&highlight=#1302184
Do not ever say anything about EPIK or related to EPIK unless it's in positive, glowing terms or you too might get 24 hours notice to vacate your apartment and told that you are permanently "blacklisted" with EPIK.
No, not a joke. Just wanted to warn people so that no one ends up like I did. I had to abandon pretty much everything in my apartment and after six years of accumulating stuff, that was quite a bit.
Also, people, protect your online identity by never revealing your real name to anyone associated with these forums, or where you work or live...not even the general area if it's rural. |

? How'd they figure out who you are? Your posting history seems honest, but are you sure that it was a post that you got you fired? You didn't even say anything that bad on that thread!! |

boshintang, They specifically told me it was that post. And yeah, I was in shock that I would get fired over that. There were so many WORSE things said about EPIK. I think I was made an example of.
Areut, Another poster on these forums e-mailed them the post. This poster was not trying to get me in trouble. I think the poster was trying to get me some help. Anyway, the poster knew my true identity and I was the ONLY new teacher in Yeongwol at the time, so it was a dead giveaway.
Ya-ta Boy~ Thanks. I am back in America now, which is why I feel safe in posting this. I am back for good. There is no way I'd force my dogs to endure another international flight...it was hell. I just got back two (maybe three? am jet lagged and confused on time/days) days ago, so the job search officially starts on Monday. In a way, I guess I'm grateful that this happened. It's great to be back. |

Pagoda is the same way. Post negatively here and you're gone (booga booga Ian, bite me, you assclown!) I was not re-signed because my contract was posted here--and it wasn't even posted by me! They had already offered me a 4th contract, and while I was in Thailand someone posted my contract here (we were discussing it in email about certain clauses I wasn't happy about), they saw it and retracted the contract. Didn't even have the balls to say it to my face. Got emailed while in Thailand. Came back and finished out my remaining months then left.
Didn't really care at the time as I was offered a job at a uni around the same time I left, so it wasn't a big deal. And anyway, that was the year of horrible policy and contract changes at Pagoda, so I wasn't torn up about it.
Sorry about EPIK, wondering... it must be awful for them to have to deal with someone who WANTS to work. Yeah, I'd fire your ass too if I saw an employee complaining about sitting on his ass all day NOT WORKING! Oh, the humanity of it.
What a bunch of tools

If I were fired for posting here, I'd find a new job in no time flat and THEY'D have to find someone else to work the day shift. Good luck to them. |

Sorry to hear what happened, Wondering. You really wouldn't want to work for for folks like that anyway, though that's cold comfort.
I hope things turn around quickly and a new job comes up in the States. |

Why didn't you just get another job?
Why did you admit that it was you who posted it?
I'd sue them, if that was possible. Did you sign anything in your contract that bars you from talking about EPIK? |

Well, I was actually fired before the job started. The starting date kept getting pushed back. So, it's not like they had to replace me and it was a public school, so it's not like they would have to deal with parents angry that their kids were "deprived" of a foreigner's instruction. It was very easy for them to do. Was NOT easy on me. I'd never been fired in my life and to be fired for something like THAT...it was quite shocking and really finally forced my eyes to be open to what people say about working in Korea. Guess it was time to grow up and get out anyway and maybe I should thank them for getting me to return to the States where I can be with my family and NOT in Korea. If I had left Korea when I was still happy to be there, it would have been hard to leave. As it was, they gave me reason to think very lowly of Korea and made it very easy to want more than anything to just get out. If there hadn't been an embargo on pets flying cargo, I'd have left sooner. But, since I have two dogs, I couldn't take them both in cabin with me and had to wait until it was safe for one to fly as checked baggage. That's also why I hadn't spoken until now. I wanted to wait until I was safely out of Korea because frankly, they scared me and I didn't know what else they might try to do. |

I didn't get another job because the whole thing made me feel so sick. Besides, I was going to be out a lot of money replacing everything I had to leave behind and I figured if I had to replace it, why not replace it in America?
Admit it was me? I didn't have to. Another poster had notified them of my post and that poster knew who I was. Plus, I was the only newbie in Yeongwol. Dead giveaway.
As for the contract, the contract that the recruiter had me sign, they claim that there was no such contract. They also claim that there was no visa issuance number. Guess they think the recruiter just made one up? |

That's EXACTLY how I feel about it. I feel like I escaped what could have been a much worse situation down the road. |

Snitches need to be beaten to death. Who the @#$% gets involved in another man's lawful employment with such a petty @#$% complaint? |

Someone else contacted them "on your behalf", pointed out the thread, and you have no problem with that? Sounds like the work of either a fool or a rat. |

This industry has a lot of ass-kissing backstabbers. |
