| I have a friend who is going to do a midnight run, because of bad work conditions. He wants to come to Korea to work. What does he have to do to get around not getting a letter of release. If one leaves the country without getting a letter of release and turns in his Korean identification card, can that person come back and start again. |

Not without a LOR or waiting until the visa expires on its own. If he didn't run he MAY eb able to talk Immigration into transferring the visa to another school (depends entirely on who he talks to and how they're feeling that day), but if he runs, that option is gone. |

| He could try a different part of Korea since immigration rarely knows what the right hand is doing. But that would be a crap shot. How long does he have left on his current contract? |

| I am in a similar plight, my boss is being extremely difficult and refusing to give me a letter of release. However I have 2 passports, anyoone have any experience of getting a new visa in a second passport of different nationality? |

There are some employers who have never heard of them. "Some" that is and not all. It may work if you bring your employer a letter of release written in Korean. There is one on the efl-law site below.

(1) Present the letter of release written in Korean after payday. Get it signed and dated etc. etc.
(2) Your friend needs to head directly to immigration at 8:30 a.m. and present the letter of release. He/she shouldn't count on bossman to handle the process. Employers have reported employees as "runners." It probably wouldn't hurt for your friend to move into a cheap Korean hotel the night before. Boss will head over to your friend's apartment. If your friend is there, then all hell will probably break loose.
(3) Immigration will call your boss to confirm the situation at hand.
(4) If your friend's visa is cancelled, they will issue your friend a 14 day exit order. |
