It might be possible to watch it here, but I haven't looked into it. I don't like watching people hurting each other!

They've got like ten weeks to promote this into a "superbout" ...

NEW YORK -- An upscale restaurant that converts into an ice skating rink in winter is a strange place for a couple of undefeated boxers to be mouthing off.

That hardly mattered to WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather and two-time junior welterweight champ Ricky Hatton on Wednesday. They spiced up a Rockefeller Center news conference with their sharp words.

The sharp punches will have to wait nearly three months until they meet in Las Vegas on Dec. 8 for Mayweather's crown.

So let the tongues flap.

"Floyd Mayweather is the face of boxing," none other than Mayweather said. "Ricky Hatton will get his biggest payday by fighting me. Oscar [De La Hoya, also the fight's promoter] got his biggest payday. Zab Judah, Arturo Gatti, [Carlos] Baldomir. All of them.

"Once a fighter gets in there with me, he's faced with the truth. Inside that ring, it's one-on-one, the truth."

The truth, according to Mayweather (38-0, 24 knockouts), is that Hatton (43-0, 31 knockouts) has no shot of winning. While he praised Hatton for leaving his native England to pursue his career in the United States, that was about the only positive thing Mayweather could find in his opponent's resume.

"There are A fighters and B fighters and C fighters. I don't know what Hatton is," Mayweather said. "Punch-hold, every fight, that's all he do. He wrestled Kostya Tszyu to death.

"Who have you beat? An over-the-hill Kostya Tszyu and [Jose-Luis] Castillo. I beat Castillo when he was in his prime over six years ago."

Mayweather is 30 years old and, judging by his big win over De La Hoya for the WBC junior middleweight bout, in his prime. Hatton, who will be 29 for the fight, also should be at his peak.

But Mayweather makes a strong point concerning the quality of opponents -- and when they met.

Hatton began facing top contenders in 2005, seven years after Mayweather won his first world belt. Mayweather has been that rare fighter willing to take on difficult challenges throughout his career.

Still, downgrading Hatton's achievements would be unfair. He is, after all, an entertaining fighter with a spotless record. And he did, as Mayweather mentioned, journey to this side of the Atlantic when he realized he needed to upgrade that resume.

Plus, he's fun to watch. And to listen to.

"It's never been my intention to just get the win," Hatton said. "Through my career, I probably had times when I tried to put on too much of a show.

"Fans like me because they can relate to me. I'm like the man in the crowd. And I do the same that any 28-year-old guy does -- drink a pint with my mates."

He also isn't afraid to go back at Mayweather verbally.

"Floyd says he's going to slap me back to London. What does that mean?" he said with a chuckle. "Is that supposed to intimidate me? That's a pretty boy trying to look and sound scary. He's not scaring me because I can't understand a word he's saying. I think it upsets him more than me.

"Everybody respects Floyd for his talent. Where do you draw the line with selling tickets and showing a little respect? He's shown absolutely no respect to me or to everyone. I think it's a lack of class."

Ah, fighting words. There undoubtedly will be thousands of them between these two before they finally get in the ring.
