You're darn skippy! It's in Chung Dong. If you need to go there for some reason go to Songnae Station and take the 7-1 bus from there to Wal-Mart. Amazingly enough, there's even a Hyundae Department store there. That area is actually kinda rockin' these days. Lots of hogwons around there, too. |
Why is everyone going to Seoul for the gatherings if all the important people live in Bucheon in or near Sang Dong. Party at my place people. |

you know I used to live in Bucheon and hated it. But I was up the northern end. Just row after row of derlict villas and aside from the odd phillipino I was the only waygook there.
However I would happily move to around sang dong/songnae station area. It's queit good through there.
OP do a search of a specific area and your bound to hit something on Incheon/Ilsan/Anyang/Bundang/Bucheon etc.

I live in Bundang and I like it fairly well. My school is near "downtown" Bundang and so the day to day necessities are fairly accessible.
To get into Seoul is about 45 min - 1 hour 15 minutes by subway (depending on where you're going). The Express Bus can be faster if you know you're way around Seoul (I don't). While the subway quits running at midnight there are buses that run until about 1:30 or 2:00 from Kangnam. After that you're stuck until about 5:30 a.m.
For me, being outside of Seoul is a plus but it can be kind of a pain when you want to do something in Seoul. Cab rides home are usually about 25,000-30,000 won when you're off meter.
I take Korean lessons every Saturday in Seoul so it is possible to commute (depending on how committed you are, I suppose). Bundang is a nice area and you can feel safe walking alone at night (even if you're female).
As for western products, we have Samsung Plaza and two black markets which offer everything that I have seen in Seoul.
The nightlife certainly isn't like Seoul, however. If you are mainly concerned with chilling out at the bars, I wouldn't pick Bundang but if you are concerned with other factors as well I would consider it.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Don't forget the Carrefour and LG Dept store just down the road about 5 minutes, and the Tesco/HomePlus across the main drag. Damn, I'm gonna miss easy access to western food... |

I live in Ilsan, Hwajeong Dong to be exact.
It is certainly cleaner than even the cleanest part of Seoul. It has all the good business types. About the only thing it lacks are english books.
I prefer Seoul still. All of my friends live there. It is easier to take a Korean class. I spend an average of 8 hours on subways a week. While I like to read, often I have to stand and I am uncomfortable.
I want to live in Seoul for those reasons.
I hate Incheon. It has some bonuses but for the most part it is old and dirty. |

The subway to Gangnam station(transfer to green line at Seollung) from Ori station (last stop on Bundang line) is about 35 minutes.
From Samsung Plaza the 9000 bus to Hannam-dong (Itaewon) is 20 minutes if there is no traffic. 30 minutes to Jongro/Gwanghwamun.
6006 bus from Central Park to Gangnam is 15 minutes if traffic is light, 2002 bus from Samsung Plaza is 15-20mins depending again on traffic.
Its pointless taking the subway anywhere other than Gangnam, just takes too long with all the transfers. Fastest way to western Seoul (Hongdae/Shinchon) is to take the 9000 bus to Euljiro-(3)sam-ga station and ride the green line in the rest of the way.
As for the "job market", you can always find jobs in central Seoul, to the original poster I suggest you aren't looking hard enough or you're being far too picky. |

For the sake of my perspective, what is "Seoul?" What are the suburbs of Seoul? What are the satellite cities? I lived in Mok-Dong and everyone always referred to it as a suburb. Shinchon was 10 min away by cab, Yeuido (sp?) was in front of my window, and in general, I felt that I was squarely in Seoul. I assumed the OP was asking about the satellite cities, such as Bundang, Ansan, Incheon, and Ilsan. |

Mokdong is Seoul, I know for sure.
The Seoul city limits on the #3 (Ilsan) line is almost right at Gupabal station. Jichuk is barely outside the city limits. |

Just to be nitpicky, Bundang isn't a city, its a "-gu" of Seongnam but it rates being its own city because the rest of Seongnam is a sewer. But anyway.
Also, Mok-dong may be officially part of Seoul, the same way Nowon is, but its faster to get from central Seoul (Itaewon/Jongro) to Bundang than it is to get to either Mok-dong or Nowon. |
