I just hit my low- I was out late last night and didn't get up to see my Mom off to the airport. Not seeing your mother off to the aiport in a foreign country has got to rank pretty high on the "worst non-criminal things you can do" scale. God, I feel awful.

My wife has a strained relationship with her family, so we have skipped
1) her sister's wedding
2) chuseok feasts for three years in a row

i convinced a 6-month rebound girlfriend to get an abortion on the false promise that she and i would stay together; i then dumped her a month after she got it done

(i was only 22 years old ! )

i don't feel awful because i didn't love her and was totally "phew" about it, but in hindsight that was a pretty low thing to do to a person

Oh my. I once got jealous and angry because a girl was talking a lot to a guy I liked, so when she wasn't looking, I grabbed her handphone and took it to the bathroom, flushed it's battery down the toilet, and threw the phone up under the sink at the bar. She never found her phone that night, and later on another night when I went back, her phone was still up under the sink. I got it and took it home and trashed it at my house. It took her a while to get a new handphone, too, because she would use the bar's phone whenever she would come in there. Now, I don't even know what I saw in that guy in the first place.

I'd use the word "fortunate" in this case rather than "low"

We've all done stupid things. Nothing to feel bad about.

But don't play it down to your age, you were 22, not 18. When I came here (a whooping 3 months ago) I was 22, and people were constantly reminding me of how young I was. Twenty-two is not young, you're old enough to understand the difference between right and wrong in a complex way, at least you should be and if you're not able to then you can't be expected to twenty years later either.

It was a mistake, though an adult mistake and not a childish one.

Egads, when people come here they make such a big deal out of age. Its driving me a little nuts. Back home, no one would refer to you as young at twenty-two. Next people are going to be saying thirty is young and stupid stuff you do when you're thirty is excusable because you don't know any better.

That would be theft. Theft is criminal princess.

It used to kill me when I first got here (24 at the time), and got treated like a child by people a whopping 2 years older than me. Rolling Eyes

"Don't smoke in front of him, he's older than you." Laughing
"If he offers you a drink, you cannot refuse, he's your hyoung!" Laughing
"You can't go home yet, I want to drink more and I'm older!" Laughing

At the time I was worried about insulting most Koreans (well, to be honest, it was never a Korean of the fairer sex) I met who were older that I was. I quickly got over it tho, there's no way I (as a grown man) will bow down to someone and allow them to make decisions for me because they happend to be born a year or two, or even ten, before I did.

Now, there are exceptions. I usually try and afford the highest level of respect I can to old folks (old meaning senior citizen status I guess) if they show it in return. Don't snarl at me like an ignorant old adjoshee and I'll gladly pour your drink with two hands.
