What is the best cheap substitue for the powdered cheese needed to make mac & cheese. I think the cheapest I've seen mac & cheese here is 1000 won for a box. But I can buy a 500g bag of pasta for 500 won. So is there a cheap place that sells bulk cheese powder? |

Real cheese has too much fat and it doesn't taste like mac & cheese
You can get mac & cheese at home for 30 cents. Its hobo food.

Stove Top Mac-n-Cheese
1/2 pound elbow macaroni
4 tablespoons butter
2 eggs
6 ounces evaporated milk
1/2 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt
Fresh black pepper
3/4 teaspoon dry mustard (optional)
10 ounces cheddar, shredded
In a large pot of boiling, salted water cook the pasta to al dente and drain. Return to the pot and melt in the butter. Toss to coat.
Whisk together the eggs, milk, hot sauce, salt, pepper, and mustard. Stir into the pasta and add the cheese. Over low heat continue to stir for 3 minutes or until creamy. |

I'm with atavistic here. Learn how to cook properly. 'Real' macaroni cheese is cheaper to make from scratch and better for you.
Powdered cheese is a disgrace.
Still there's no accounting for taste.
I did request a cooking 'sticky' but it's gone awry! |

Ok again if I wanted real cheese, I would eat that with a nice wine. If I want some comfort food that tastes like back home for lunch I would eat mac&cheese. I like powdered cheese, it won't give me gas, and the fat content is lower. I know how to cook stop trolling. |

Apologies Mikekim, I'm not trolling. I used to be a chef for four years so am into my proper cooking.
The only cheese I've seen that is readily available in supermarkets is the powdered parmesan which costs about 3500 won. Better than nothing. If you want proper stuff then Seoul is the best bet. |

What if you saved up all those little packets of parmasean that come with pizzas? Or just buy some powderd parmasean?
If you do have to use real cheese, I think edam is quite low fat compared to cheddar etc. |

I found Kraft mac and cheese in the underground market in Dongdemun (spelling). I have never found bulk powdered cheese in Korea. I think it will be impossible. Have someone from home send it to you. |

You seriously think you're going to be able to find bulk powdered cheese? HA!
To the person that recommended a recipe with real cheese....do you know how much 10 ounces of real cheddar is worth here? It's bloody weight in gold. |

I have said this about a zillion times.....bring cheese in with you. 6x1kg blocks, frozen solid, wrapped in newspaper, declare 'em no worries. One block a month for 1/2 a contract sweet. Don't let yr roundeye mates get into it when they're on the beers and it will last for ages. |
