I've been digging into these. There are some glitches. Sometimes they focus on the person talking without letting us see the Powerpoint they are using or they cut back and forth a bit awkwardly. But still, this will be a valuable resource for what I have to do.

The course I'm teaching sounds more interesting than it actually is, in large part because I have so little to accomplish in it. As I said, the profs I'm working with have done their PhDs abroad, have English good enough for the task, know their subject matter... the only issue is confidence. We (another person is handling a section) are also presenting some material on strategies they can use to help students with limited English handle the material (which is really a bigger concern than the professors' English) and on how to make the lectures more interactive (which we believe will help some with the previously mentioned problem). But a lot of it is a therapy session boosting confidence.

I should add that this course was thrust upon me as extra hours and I resent the theft of my time from other things I could be doing (writing, editing, etc.), especially since it seems so unnecessary. We have pointed out that this course could be taught by MAs specializing in academic English, but because these are PhDs, they apparently can't learn from anyone but a fellow PhD - status and face, etc. Waste of my time, I say.

Alyallen:

Thanks for the lead! This is great for listening practice for the TOEFL and for listening/writing assignments for undergrad English majors.

And, as you reminded all the curmudgeons here, it's FREE!!!

Now a question: they've got about 210 videos online and plan more. Any idea when that will be done and what courses?

The PAC courses are good because the concepts of world peace and conflict are of universal interest, or should be.

BTW: If you tried the OP's link and it didn't connect, it's because she inadvertently included a comma after the last letter of the URL

Berkeley remains one of the top 5 public universities in North America (and indeed one of the world's finest despite its decidedly leftist leanings in the humanities).

The others are: Univ. of Michigan, Wisconsin, Virginia, UCLA, and sometimes North Carolina.

Hey, you're welcome. Thanks for the heads up on the link. I cut and pasted the story. I checked the article and lo and behold, there's a comma next to Berkeley in the article. Now here's a tech question. I didn't use the function in the article, so why did the link work? Is the URL button now obsolete?
