Is his school accredited? If so, it should be no problem to continue working...if not, well.... Sad

Yup, if it is accredited no problem. Check your countries website for accredited schools. If it is there you are good to go.

I'm afraid he's facing some difficulty. If the status of his uni has changed (in the eyes of Immi), then his visa may be revoked.

If it's a real school, have your broher go to the accreditation website and print out that list. Have him hand it in to his school officials and let them battle out amongst themselves. If he's from the U.S. he can try this site

U.S. Department of Education Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/

This verification thing is so disjointed and idiotic. Sigh...

Why did they give him a visa in the first place? Because back then they trusted him when he applied for a visa and falsely declared that his degree was from an accredited university. South Korea is now discovering that just taking someone's word o the visa application doesn't cut it.

Why is his university on the unqualified list? You already answered your own question: it's because the school is not accredited. There may be any number of reasons why the school didn't pass muster with the regional accreditation agency.

To be blunt, it's because of people like your brother that those of us who have been honest have to jump through hoops verifying and re-verifying our credentials. I really can't muster any sympathy for him when he knew all along that his school was not accredited. If he's lucky, he'll only get deported. One individual from Canada got thrown in prison for six months.

The above comments only apply if his school was not accredited at the time of his graduation. If it were, then he can obtain certification that shows the degree passes muster when earned. "Real degree," as far as South Korea is concerned, means "from an accredited university or college."

when he got his visa they never asked him if he graduated from an accredited university.they just asked for the original degree and he send it to them...then they provided him with an e2 visa....thats all...plus he did not know that his uni will be all the sudden unaccredited...cool down man...try to look at the bright side..

Well, you don't seem like a native English speaker, so I'm guessing you're misunderstanding terms:

Accredited/unaccredited refers to university status IN ITS OWN COUNTRY, and has nothing to do with Korean laws (except that unaccredited university graduates ARE NOT qualified for E2 visas).

I trust you're talking either to yourself or to your brother and yourself together with that "calm down" comment. I'm perfectly calm; after all, my diploma is from an accredited university.

When I applied for a teaching job over here, the recruiter, the schools, and the government made no secret that an E-2 visa requires an accredited degree.

I seriously doubt your brother was unaware of his school's accreditation status at the time of his enrollment there. If it was accredited when he graduated, he shouldn't have any worries. Schools can and do lose accreditation. If it wasn't accredited at the time of his graduation, then tough.
