I know this topic may be a little stale, but it has relevance.

The other day, my wife and a few Korean friends were talking about D-War. They asked me what I thought.

I went on a short rant about how bad the movie was. I remarked that it sucks, was boring, put me to sleep, and a fw more things.

Then one of my wife's friends said 'Hey, I am Korean'.

So the question is, does trashing D-War = an insult to Korea?

I don't get the taking things not directly related to them to heart (except by dint of being born on the same patch of dirt). If someone criticises Vegemite I don't take it as an assault on all things or anybody Australian.

Yeah. That fag Jaganath is all over the Aussie International Forums toting vegemite. He claims it cures cancer, SARS, and many other diseases. He alos supports buying only domestic products, due to their 'superior quality'.

Give me a bucket of maple sap and back bacon any day. Oh yeah, and those gumballs that have a Canadian flag on the box.

I agree, it was a bad film. I went to Yahoo and saw that so many people gave it 5 stars. I looked at those posts and they were all Koreans. There is an umbilical cord that links all Koreans. They are dying to be recognized.

Oh well, dwars in number 31 this week......

what will be the next GREAT competition...speed skating, another soccer match, another movie, another golf tournament, korea always needs something to prove that they are great. Well, so did Naploean. I guess.

Don't miss this great film (19 Ratings) 3-Sep-07 07:29 am My friend invited me to go see this movie. We 5guys all loved this film. It was much better than I expected. CG is absolutely impressive. They did good job creating this Oriental originated monster. The movement of dragon was just real i wanted to stretch out my hand and just feel it. very fun and exciting film. 5 stars!!!1

: Don't miss this great film (Not rated) 16-Sep-07 06:10 pm I liked it. i am a fan of fantasy movie. nice one.

The story line was unique.. CG was real great (better than Godzilla and Hulk). There were some scenes volent and shocking, but neither too cruel nor scary. I watched it with my 7-year old son..... It was so amzing (and even miraculous) that he did not take his eyes off the screen throughout the whole movie. He said he loved it so much.

The climax scene is the last one. A good "imoogi" (a good pre-dragon giant serpent) transforms itself into a real dragon and ascends into the sky. It is so exotic, fantastic, dazzling, and overwleming. The scene is extremly spiritual in an entertaining way. You shouldn't miss it.

Haha, you'll be sorry when I come back from my next business trip to southern China having barebacked hoors and dined on raw civet cat AIDS and SARS free, all because I smeared my didgeridoo with Vegemite, suckah!

I've found that most Koreans (even crazy young kids) are actually bashing the movie themselves. In fact, I don't think I've heard any postitive reviews, aside from maybe "the CG was good". And of course, not including Korean internet nerds. But hey, they're not real people anyway.

Your're wife's friend (or whoever) is a *beep*. This is a rare case when it is just the odd individual and not the "entire" nation.

Well, IMDB says it cost $70 million to make. That's way higher than the official figure. I think the figure does include the marketing budget. Dwar has grossed about 50 million domestic, 10 million in the N/A release. Figure NA gross = world gross. So another 10-20 mil from the rest of the world. Add in then (legal) DVDs, TV rights, Korean Airlines buying the rights to show to stunned travelers, yeah it will make back its money. Eventually. I'm sure there will be licensing rights too to Dwar pencil cases (with some weird ass game on top... brace yourselves), Dwar candy, whatever.

Pretty much every movie Hollywood turns out eventually makes a profit. DVD sales, TV sales, etc.

I would say half of my students said it was 'okay' and the other half said 'not good'. None of them said it was 'super awful' or anything like that.

I don't think bad of my wife's friend. But I do think she thought I was trashing her country. Though I do that a lot, I was not at that time.
