Hey yall.
My uncle was here during the Korean War and had a best friend names Ko Young. They haven't seen or heard from each other since the sixties. I was wondering if any of you could help me.

I have Ko Young's last remaining address and would love nothing more than to find him and put him in contact with my uncle back in the states. There's a possibility he's still alive, and I tried once but gave up quickly because I was leaving the country. His address was in Insadong, but the guy helping me couldn't find the building (go figure....40 years ago)

I tried the War museum, a very limited English speaking police station, etc.

If you guys know anything about finding soldiers (Ko Young was part of the KATUSA) or anything like that, please let me know.

Peace.

Everyone in Korea has a unique ID number. It shoudn't be difficult to locate a person if you know his/her full name. The problem is that an average person does not have access to the database. You would need an official reason to search. I am not sure where to go to start searching, though. Go to your Dong Office and ask (in fluent Korean Very Happy ). If the person is not residing at the registered address, then you would have to track down the cell-phone number. Again, you would need an official reason to ask phone companies to give you information.

Maybe you can hire a private detective. There's gotta be some around.

Full name, age, and a private investigator should do the trick.

Only thing I can think of is you'll need his family name and guestimate his year of birth. Then head to the local city government building of his last known address and go to the family registrar's office. You'll need a native speaking Korean to go with you for help, but that may be a good place to look. They should have his current home address. That's all I can think of. Let me know if have any success!
