I have heard 2nd hand from travellers to Russia, that
a visa is needed from the Russian Embassy to go to Vladivostok.
The embassy also needs an itinerary to go with it.
Does anyone know for sure?
Who has been to V, Russia?
Is it a funky place to check out?

Going *anywhere* in the Russian Federation will require a Russian visa for foreigners.
A visa invitation can be issued by a variety of Russian travel agencies and hotels (about $20 US), but this then has to be taken to a Russian Embassy for the visa issuance (price varies widely). |

The visa process in Seoul is alot easier than it looks, and much cheaper than the internet says. Many of your concerns are not well founded so don't worry so much. Vlad is dumbly expensive, not much for the value. Try Kharborovsk. |

Agree with Tony_Balony.
VERY easy to get to Vladivostok. Just BUY your ticket and THE travel arrange will arrange EVERYTHING for you. You can even give them WON and they'll get your visa stamp for you at the Russian embassy. (Although that is easy to do as well).
It is however insanely expensive and a fairly lousy vacation outside of the immediate mental rush of 'hey, I'm in Russia!' |

You have to stay in state-sponsored hotels. The cheapest one is US$50/night and they go significantly up from there. If you like to go out and hit the bars/clubs, they all have around $15-20 entry charges. Beers in the bars/clubs are around $5-6/bottle.
Since I go out a lot, I found I was easily spending over $150/day total with hotels, eating and going out each day. Maybe I spent $1200 in a week without anything to show for it. Granted if I hadn't went out so much, I'd probably have had spent half of that.
I don't mind spending that much if I was actually having fun, but I was searching for things to do each night, and very few places had much of anything interesting actually happening. |

One of my very good friends is head chef in a restaurant in Kharborovsk. I get mails a lot about the beautiful, plentiful women and the clubs. From what I hear it's meant to be happening big time there. |

Yeah, I'm thinking about Kharbarovsk for a quick trip, anyone been there? What's the best flight from here? |
