This is just a suggestion, just trying to help.
I quickly went through your site regarding the dogs, but there didn't seem to be a place where I could look at all of the dogs seperately one by one with their names/circumstances. I saw a couple of pics of dogs from the last visit.
I know this may be a lot of work for somebody, but could a catalog be created of all the dogs/names/ages of this particular shelter in Daejeon? That way people can quickly go through the animals and try to guage their interest quickly.
As an aside, thank you to all the people who dedicated their time to this effort already. |

With many people on this board only being in korea for one year, is this really a great place to try to get people toadopt?
I mean seriously, I cringe at the majority of foreign teachers here owning a pet - many of them can barely take care of themselves. |

I agree that sending money is a more feasible way for most of us to help than agreeing to take in a dog ... and it's the least we can do if we possibly can. I've e-mailed Tim asking where to send in a donation, and I hope everyone else will too. Even if everyone here made a small contribution, it could add up to a significant amount.

I'd think twice about supporting a business like that, unless the dogs who lived there were rescued and the cafe was actively involved in rescue work. I'd be concerned about the possibility of perpetuating irresponsible guardianship and profit-motivated dog breeders.
On the other hand, "dog cafes" could be a positive thing, if their mandate was to solve the homeless animal problem. I just wish these places could be turned into "animal adoption cafes" where the staff went to pick up a group of animals from the pound every week and temporarily took them out of their cages to give them some human contact and some exposure to the public. People would get to see and interact with some of the wonderful animals who are available for adoption and browse computer terminals to see photos of the adoptable animals housed in other locations. They could also get information about spaying, neutering, and how they can participate in community efforts to help animals.
I wish I knew how to get a system like this in place.  |
OP, do you have any thoughts about this? And do you think it would do any good to approach existing dog cafes to ask for their help with the Daejeon dogs? Has anyone tried? |

| Also, OP, I haven't heard anything from Tim yet, but I would like to make a donation. Maybe you'd get more donations if you posted a bank account number where people could make direct transfers via ATM? I went to your site and clicked on the grey box, but nothing happened. |

I have a volunteer graphic designer working on that at the moment. However, if you are interested in printing, distributing, and posting, please let me know and I'll get you the poster. I believe that bases and vets are great ideas!

You are right, that would be much more useful. Even though we do have individual pix, getting individual info is best. However, those dogs were all abandoned, so we don't know their background. Plus, don't forget that this is a simple greenhouse with only one woman in charge. She doesn't keep records or anything (but believe it or not, she knows all their names)! Almost all of them are sterilized though (if that is of any help..  ) . I know it is a little tricky, but this is why we need foster homes as well, to help us find out more about each dog.

Definitely not the best solution. However, even though we are really busy and in a rush, we still screen people and get them to fill out our adoption form. Plus, it is an extreme situation requiring as much help as possible. Good point though, so people, please be responsible and help only if you really can commit to these dogs who have already been moving too much !!

Both Tim and I are handling donations (I'm Annie). Tim is taking them through paypal while I am through direct transfer in a Korean Bank account. I know it sounds weird that we are taking the money under our name, but the donation buttons on the site don't go directly to us. The money goes to an internation groups who help animals in Korea. However, they are not really helping us!! We need to change this, but we couldn't register as we are not a registered charity organization. I don't really feel comfortable posting my banking info on the web, so I prefer people to PM me...Thanks for understanding. Plus, if people don't feel comfortable donating directly to us, I can understand...
Then, just to let you know, we have Tim's company lawyer working on the case who is trying to buy more time by showing that we are really helping and could solve the problem if we had an extension...So please help us prove it!
BTW, the Internet reporter couldn't get her boss to approve the story...

I've had more pets dies at the hands of the incompetent vets here (two) than by the hands of myself or friends (zero). |

HI everyone!
That was a really busy week as many people got back to us! Last week, we got 3 adoptions, and 4 dogs found foster homes. That might not seem like a lot, but it is still progressing.
We also received donations and people helped publicized the story. Thanks to all!
Some of you might not have the time or energy to adopt or foster. Yet more can't donate. Still, a very nice graphic designer volunteered to create posters (with 2 versions: English/Korean), and I thought that you could help us post them!
If you are interested, please pm me and I can send them to you!

You know, I'd just like to say (since I've fostered atleast 5 dogs since living here) that its EASIER than most people think. To look after a dog for the time needed to find it a permanent home is not only fun but you get all the benefits of a pet without the long term committments....
Works well for a lot of foreigners, if only more people would relax about it all. Not a big deal, just do it (and save some lives) |

Hi all!
Last week we got 9-10 dogs out! This is good, but we still need more.
We are dealing with the council for more time now. Nothin sure....
I simply want to let you know that we are going back this weekend and that it might be the last...Even if you only want to play with the dogs and give them some love and happiness, that would be great!
