As you see, sublimespawn, from the lengthy and welcoming replies to your thread, waygooks in korea are the most friendly, warm, and welcoming people!
Make friends with koreans, they can be a lot less trouble and more rewarding.......

don't be so bitter, at least with western people you know they're being friends with you because they want to, not to get free english lessons.

welcome to korea, when you get here. I don't know where the hell yongin is. hope its nice.

If that's you in your avatar, a hearty welcome on behalf of all in the big bear club. There's some rugby teams here that could use ya if you're interested (I don't play anymore but still have a lot of friends in the league here). And if you're coming over with some $, I'd love to relieve ya of some of it playing pool, heeeee heeeee Laughing

As for Blue Flower (above whiney whitey gal) types...there's always that wonderful bliss called yellow fever.

Yeah, if all else fails, let Seoultrader introduce you to the sleazy underworld of the country! Laughing

Yongin is a pretty good area- close to Seoul, but small enough to be peaceful (relatively), close to Everland and the National Folk Village. You'll have a great time.

HEHEH

No pads or go home! :)

Welcome to the country, hope you enjoy your stay. I think you'll be mixing a LOT of bad experiences with a LOT of great ones, and as long as you have lots of grains of salt (bring over a 20kg bag if possible), then you should do fine.

:)

If all goes to sh*t, hook up with SeoulTrader. That guy ALWAYS sounds like he's having fun, no matter how much sh*t hits the fan.

:)

jae.

Actually, Blue Flower, I've found other foreigners here are more likely to be your friend purely out of the convenience that you speak the same language and come from the same culture...a friendship that instantly fades the moment you or they step on the plane out of here.
Korean friends have been a lot nicer and better for me here than waegooks, I have to say..
Considering that nobody was responding to this guy sublimespawn until I rescued his thread from slipping off the page, I think we can safely assume Waegooks aren't the friendliest crowd out here....

On the other hand, you have to consider that Yongin is the locale. I expect that if he had been going to Busan, Seoul, Pohang, Kwangju, Ilsan, Ansan or Suwon he would have received some quicker responses.

I think people here on this forum are generally quite welcoming. Oct 18th get together: case in point.(and the spinoffs therefrom.)

Hi Shawn...
Zed briefly mentioned it, but I will directly tell you that every now and again, we here at Dave's have a get-together at some bar in the Seoul area (I still pray that one day the "Seoul area" will include Gwangju.) Wink
They are a lot of fun and a good way to get to meet other ESL teachers. You will know when there is one because the announcement never seems to leave the first page and develops a trail of about 15 pages.
Don't be shy about posting...we have a wide variety of opinions and people floating around in here. Smile
Welcome...
