I wouldn't exactly say I love spiders or that I don't get a fright when I see a huge black monster running along the wall. But you can't live here and not get over your fear of getting close enough to kill.

I've heard Oz has mammals that are almost all peaceful and mellow but the reptiles and insects are more dangerous than other parts of the world ... true or not?

When I was a little kid I lived in a rural community. My best friend was a "bug" kid. He had horned toads, the kind that squirt blood from their eyes when disturbed, lizards, bugs, spiders, etc. I had no problem with any of these creatures.

Then I saw "Arachnophobia," and it GAVE me arachnophobia. I am perfectly aware of the irrationality of this, but it is absolutely true. I've gotten better as an adult, and being a bit of a buddhist I try to avoid killing things if possible spiders included. I have a general rule now, if a spider comes into my bubble of personal space, they die, otherwise we're golden.

How many spiders have you seen here?

I have only seen 2 or 3, but one of them was pretty with green stripes and with a back about an inch long, and the same size legs.

Stretched out, I didn't want to get too close to it. The kids were loving it though.

Well, in my case, that might be true where the smaller / medium sized spiders are concerned. However, these larger spiders that you mention (for the benefit of the non-Australians here) belong to one or more species of Huntsman.

I would really rather not be in the same room as one of these.

I loved that movie. I remember seeing that in the theater. We saw it a 2nd time. We were sitting in the balcony and threw candy (popcorn and nibbles) onto people during the scary parts. It was great.

We'd just do it to one part of the audience. They'd all jump and scream and the other sections would just yell. It was sort of like 'the wave' at a sports game.

You don't want to hear what you can do with skin lotion and a water gun at a porno movie.

I gre up in the Philippines where there are some giant, hideous spiders...some beautiful, very deadly ones as well. There was this one beauty...bright and shiny green one with 4 legs (looks like it)...at a resort we were at. The staff came and FLAMED it with a bloody flame thrower!! Wild.

Another time, I was lying in my bed one night, and trying to make out this black thing on the ceiling. I thought it was moving, but I couldn't be sure. Suddenly it was gone and something heavy and scrambly was on my head! I sat up fast and saw somthing jump over to my little sister's bed...I grabbed her and my little brother out of his trundle bed and ran screaming out of the room.

My mom came up with a big bowl and plate and managed to scoop the giant badboy up....took it outside and threw the plate, bowl and spider over the wall.

SCARY night...my sister is absolutely paranoid of spiders now, and I am very creeped out by the big ones. Gives me horrid cold shivers.

The little ones....not bothered by them. They kill bugs.

Nah..... most things here will kill ya. Even the mammals.... Koalas? cute and cuddly??? Not on your life. If you see one up in a tree, make sure you maintain eye-contact....and back away. Lose eye-contact for a second and that sleepy little teddy bear will be leaping out after you with claws bared.

I don't think bilbys have ever killed anybody. yet.
