To be fair to the guy, the result for the Russia match on that surface was always going to be difficult to get. Should he be fired? Probably, but only because England are in the position that they might not qualify because of their earlier debacles. For that loss, probably not.

I think England could do much better. What about Mourinho? That'd be fun to see!

I'd get shot of him straight away. God knows the knives have been drawn for long enough. I didn't realise it, but Rooney's last 2-goals are the only International goals he's scored in 3-years. Why is he, a striker, giving away penalties as well? Given his track record, I'd have forbidden him to set foot inside the 18-yard box.

I'm 99.9% sure that we will not qualify for Euro 2008 now. I just can't see Israel beating Russia. There are too many assured players in the England squad, players who consistently under perform and yet who always get the nod from the manager. Why has it taken so long to drop Frank Lampard? Selection should be made based on a players effectivness from statistics from previous matches. As an attacking midfielder, his manager should be seeing something in the region of a goal every other game. If you fail, tough luck, bye bye. Get someone else in. Same for Rooney and I don't care if we've no one else. Get someone from the Championship in.

England's football team is, I'm afraid, pitiful a situation not helped by a manager who insists on recycling the same old rubbish.

yeah but what are you gonna do? Play Peter Crouch? Defoe? the attacking options are just so limited, that is why we ended up taking theo walcott to the last worldcup. there is just a complete dearth of striking talent in england at the moment.

I agree with you about 'assured' players.. defense and midfield is choked with overpaid, overrated tools who think they have a divine rite to win and when they dont start talking up teams like estonia as a serious threat to england. These retards think they are the shiznit because they are celebrities, they start believing their own hype.

And I havent even mentioned the goalkeeper yet. Useless fat fuck.

Despite all this England are still a decent team and there is no excuse given that group. Maybe if we had hired Scolari things would have been different.

Therein lies the problem. Israel have little to gain - except pride - by beating Russia, who will be fighting for their lives. Germany's 3-0 defeat against the Czech Republic exemplies this point.

I think a Russia - Israel draw would put England in assuming they beat Croatia. Unlikely I would say.

McLaren guess will be sacked when they don't qualify.

A story in Guardian today with S MacLaren blaming the ref---apparently the Rooney tackle was out of the box. Anyway Hiddink said McLaren should look at himself for the loss.

Isn't Hiddink something else? ROK Aussie and now Russia---Jesus it looks like he could take anyone through the World Cup...
