Has any else heard about this? Apparently I'm one of 130 foreign teachers the province wants to take on a sight-seeing trip on a school day. Why? Why am I being pulled out of work to do this? What do they think we are, tourists?

I think I might just take my first ever sick day at my current job.

My city is taking all the native teachers on an all expenses paid trip to Jeju-do that weekend.

I hope you enjoy your sightseeing tour.

I have no problem going along on trips with my school or with my school's teachers and have done so many times. In fact we had an outing yesterday to celebrate the end of exams and I'm going along on a trip with my middle schoolers on Friday.

What I do have a problem with is a 'Hey Waegook, Wecome to Korea!' trip. Koreans put on crap sight-seeing tours in any event, but the last thing I want to do is go on one with 125 waegooks, mostly newbies, I don't even know. I've done plenty of sight-seeing around Korea with both foreign and Korean friends and I don't need to be hauled out of work to do this kind of shit. I'm sure the main priority is silly photo-shoots, too.

I'll be there, reminding myself that it's almost like a day off and trying to make the best of it.

What information did they give you? Do you think they'll be taking attendence? On Thursdays I have a class that's usually pretty lame at 9.20 and then two pretty good ones at 11.20 and 3.00pm. I'm thinking about showing up in Changwon, going through whatever sort of registration process they're doing, and then disappearing and taking the bus back home in time for my 11.20 class.

I've done that kinda trip every time I went on a trip with a school (hagwon or public school) but I went with my coworkers (all korean).

Is the problem then, essentially that you don't want to make those trips with other foreigners or the reaction it would get?

LOL... yeah, I know.

What time are you supposed to meet in Changwon? It sounds like a long day.

I've no idea if they'll be taking attendence, but it would be hard for them to fault you for sneaking back to teach your classes. Your VP should be proud.
If they ask, I'll say I just saw you a few minutes ago. "He's around here someplace."
