Hi fellow caf citizens,

I would just like to say I am very disappointed with the high levels of ignorance a few people on this board display. I can only say I am very happy that many Koreans, who can read English, do not read these posts and see how racist/xenophobic and judgemental some of you are. Thankfully, these clowns only account for about 1% of the people on here, but it are these sorts of people that bring the expatriate community down. So read these examples and remember that you are a guest in Korea, try and show some respect. What would you think if a Korean person went to your country and complained about everything? Hmm

I have read posts asking Why dont Korean parents tell their kids not to be rude? Hmm, are we asking this because we all know that children in English speaking countries are so well behaved? Or are we asking because we all know that the best parents come from the English speaking community?

I have seen posts claiming Its not my job to make materials for my classes. Well let me explain something to you, if you are asked to do a job, and your on company time, and it is not a danger or degradation to yourself or others, then Im sorry, it is your job to do it. Or again, is it you dont want to do it because in English speaking countries teachers dont have to prepare for lessons? Or because in English speaking countries it is ok to tell your boss that youre not going to do as asked?

Just read the post claiming that there are racist words in the Korean/English dictionary. Oh my, strange that no one pointed out that these were translations of ENGLISH phrases into Korean (although some did note that we used these phrases in English). Wouldnt that mean the racist and hurtful phrases originated from the English speaking population? Oh the ignorance of a handful of the EDUCATED people on this forum amuses me.

Then there are those who rant because some Korean guy/girl calls out in English as they approach. Now it may be a little off putting to you and even a little rude on the behalf of the Koreans to do this, but to say that the Korean was speaking Englisheee is, now what do they call it? RACIST. (Yes, making a joke or fun of another person based on a cultural difference, such as the way that person speaks, is racist) These guys spoke in English and you were offended, so you showed your true colours and reverted to being the racist you are.

But the ignorance does not stop there ladies and gentleman. No, these knob heads think that every time a Korean is nice or friendly they just want free English lessons. Well to be honest, if you think this, then it is you who has the problem and not them. You seem to lack self esteem and have ill informed ideas of your own self importance. (They only want to be my friend because I can help them with English, well at least speaking English is something you have to offer, pity you lack anything else)

Or how about this genius. Responding to the post about guessing which face (picture) belonged to which ethnic group. I quote, It's not like the test matters because unlike Koreans, I ASK where people are from. I don't assume...which is what the test asks you to do... Hmm, didnt you just assume that all Koreans dont ask? Is it really so hard not to put down Korea and Koreans at every opportunity. Or can I ASSUME that you are going to remain a clown?

But my favourite has to be the post asking If Japan offers a better cultural experience than Korea. Nice question. Now we are rating cultures are we? Let me ask you this, does America offer a better cultural experience than England? Or are these two very distinct and very different cultures to be enjoyed in there own way? Oh the ignorance. Whats better an apple or an orange?

Or the fool who was wondering about the phrasing on the application form when their friend was applying to do an MBA at a Korean University, then stating that because of a few typos Korean Universities could not crack the top 50 Us in the world. Well, your friend must be very intelligent for applying for such poor institutions. Can you not see that you just offended your friend as well as many people in Korea. Just another case of ignorant people belittling others to make themselves feel better. But hey, you probably went to a top 50 University. Good for you! How did you get into teaching with your superior intellect? Oh, and your ability to think laterally is quite astounding, if you could not interpret the questions and had to resort to asking maybe an MBA is beyond you or your friends abilities.

However, on a good note, I have seen many of the more level headed people on this board start to fight back and tell these bigots that they are a minority. Like the multiple posts against the teacher who thinks Korea is no good because he cant save money. Poor you buddy, go see a financial advisor, dont slate a whole country.
And again when some guy called Korean teachers retards (great word you use my friend, not demeaning to anyone) and people had to point out to this clown that it was a fault with the system not the teacher. But hey, just no beating ignorance.

So I eagerly await your replies. Lets see how many people will actually take this on board and better themselves and lets see how many remain a blemish on the face of the expatriate community in Korea. Oh, I have made a few syntax and grammar mistakes for those who enjoy finding the faults with other peoples posts. Everyone has a hobby I guess.

I suppose the most glaring error is in your signature. Seeing as that's going to go onto every posting you make, don't you think you should have taken a little more care over it?

Dude, so many people come here to vent. It's not easy being a foreigner in Korea and this is one of the few places where teachers and the like can give voice to their frustrations. Granted there is a lot of OTT bashing of the place here, but read deeper into some of the posts and you might get an insight into the struggles we face. There are a great number of people here capable of seeing tricky intercultural problems and issues from both sides of the fence and I can only wish that some natives here would make the same effort. (I'm assuming you're Korean or Kyopo, apologies if I'm wrong).

P.S. Your sig would work better as a suggestion. As a command it makes you sound like a bit of a boorish tw@t.

I take offense at your negative (and repetitive) use of the word clown.

OP is right.

But, actually, there can be racist, ignorant morons on this board who don't know what they're talking about AND still be right about some of the criticisms they have for this country.

One point that I want to make - I am NOT a guest here. It's a business thing, I am providing a service for a charge. Other than regular civility to other human beings, I see no reason to change my behaviour while in Korea. If I want to rant about something on this board, I have every right to.

Gyopos can pop up on this board playing at being all morally superior, giving little speeches about the "foreigner community" in Korea etc but really? This guys probably checking this thread every 3 minutes to see who wants to fight with him.

What he meant was,

"Your a guest, please show some respect."

should be

"You're a guest, please show some respect." or
You are a guest, please show some respect.

Yeah, too fucking right. We're not GUESTS, we're here providing a service. It's a country, ffs, not a relative's house, so you can drop that precious fucking notion for starters.

Yes, this is what I meant. But I also now mean that your signature is conceptually erroneous too.

Let's re-visit the thread and see if that's what really happened.

The complaint throughout the thread is that in a Korean dictionary it was not stated that the n-word is an offensive (the most offensive) word in the English language. In English dictionaries, slurs are stated clearly as such.

Look at Naver's definition of 흑인. It lists the n-word and 'darky' as though they were synonyms for 'black person'.

So it seems you've completely misunderstood the point people were making.

0 points for LUCRETIA. Im Australian. The_eyeball_kid just lost his points for great responses due to his lack of understanding of the word guest (you think to literally my educated friend, you would be terrible at teaching idioms and slang) and for having the courage to pick on people with disabilities (nice signature).

Also, Nice points made by those in relation to my post and the spelling used in my signature (I changed it for you, little victories people, little victories), but some are still overlooking the greater issue in order to nit pick.

So for those people I offer the A/V version.

Mocking Koreans' woeful pronunciation of the English language does not qualify as racism any more than mocking Canadians' pronunciation of "about" ("a boat"). It's not very nice, at worst. Grow a pair, son. There's only one way to stop being mocked and that's to stop pronouncing English like this:

투데이, 아이 멧 어 우먼 앤드 위 에이트 런치. 벗 이츠 베리 디피컬트 비코스 아이 돈트 스피크 잉글리시 웰.
