Having a problem with the line spacing in this new version.
In older versions of Word, when you change the line spacing (Say from 'single' to 1.5 or 2.0), the added space is equally distributed on top and on bottom of the text.
In the 2007 version, however, all of the space is sent to the bottom of the text.
As an example of this, if you highlight an area of text and set the spacing to something ridiculous, like 4.0, you will see a large highlighted area below the text. This will push subsequent lines of text down from the one you spaced, but it will do nothing to push the line you spaced down from the ones above it.
Has anyone run into this problem? Even better, has anyone found a solution?
I'm trying the discussion groups on the Microsoft website, but people think I'm either a) talking about the wrong thing or b) talking about something else.
Thanks. |

I'm having no problem with line spacing in word 2007. Can you post a screen shot of what you have done or else step by step of what you did so we can try to replicate your problem. |

I've been using Office 2003 and the spacing (double or 1.5 or whatever) is always added on the bottom. It's never centered. It looks centered by the time you type a few lines because the spacing is consistent. But the first line is always right after the line above it.
I think you're mistaken.

I have never had to change the spacing to just one part of a page, so I didn't ever notice this problem.
I just thought that this was a thread talking about how bad Windows Office 2007 is. I don't know about the other office components, but I think MSWord 2007 blows. It might actually be better but I just can't get used to the new user interface and it takes too much energy just to figure out how to do the basic things.
I tried the 30 day trial version and then bought the MS Office 2003 instead (I bought it because I wanted the English version, so don't go off on, "Man, yous stupit because you just coudda just stole it for free, man, from this site or borrowed it for free at that site." Speak to the hand, and right now, that friend is busy too. |

Unfortunately, it's difficult for me to post a picture of what I've done since I no longer have Word 2003 on this computer. Let me try to illustrate:
Say I have 3 lines of text as follows:
Line 1
Line 2
Line 3
I want to keep Lines 1 and 3 single spaced, while changing the spacing of Line 2 to double. (I have to do this sort of thing frequently because I write curriculum and am often required to format things on my own.)
In Word 2003, when I double spaced Line 2, it would be separated equally from Lines 1 and 3.
In Word 2007, when I double space Line 2, it will remain the same distance from Line 1 as it was when it was single spaced. Line 3 will be pushed down away from it.
I have been using Word 2003 in this manner for several years now, so I am quite sure that I'm not mistaken about the matter. Thank you guys for your responses... so far I've been able to finagle the text by using invisible text boxes and tables in strange places where I shouldn't have to, but that takes a lot of time. |
