Hello all,
I have been researching various schools and locations to work in Korea, but have failed in creating a short list. Therefore I thought I would ask the all-wise forum for advice. I am looking for a place that is not overly large, but something that still provides many opportunities to interact with the Korean natives and fellow foreigners. I am also hoping to be near a National Park, hiking trails, mountains etc. Cultural and historic areas are also appealing, but not as important as the other requirements. So almighty forum voice your suggestions! |

Changwon in Gyeongsangnamdo
Chuncheon in Gangwondo
Namwon, Jeollabukdo
and if by 'not overly large' you don't mind less than 500,000 then better for your tastes would be...
Jinju, Gyeongsangnamdo
Sokcho, Gangwondo
Seogwipo, Jeju
Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbukdo |

Gangwondo public schools are hiring right now for jobs in and near sokcho (including to replace me). Might be worth looking into as it is much better than working for a hakwon for sure. |

Thanks for the suggestions, I will definitely look into those cities. Is there anyone out there that is currently working in any of these cities that can give me some insight? (ie. are you enjoying it? what are the best aspects? what are the worst?)
As for Gangwondo I am looking at leaving in late december, early january so they said that they probably won't be hiring then, but that other school boards might be. Anyone have a suggestion as to what might be a good alternative to Gangwondo? |

look... if you want public school positions then expect to be hired in november or december for a late february, early march start... that's when their school year starts
i started work in korea in late december 2002 but it was at a hagwon (a great hagwon btw, stayed there 3.5 years)
if you are determined to work in january then do a winter camp, as the entire month of january is dedicated to such for many as winter holidays happen in public schools
work a winter camp and start public schools in late feb/early march... the time inbetween travel cheaply in korea or squat for a couple of weeks in southeast asia.. winter camps pay more than enough to make this doable

| thanks for the advice... i am not stuck on working for a public school at all, but it is certainly an option along with doing winter camps. I was more or less looking for suggestions as to what locations would fit me best so I could refine my research a little more. Conversely I appreciate your input and it is definitely something I will put some thought into. |
