Hey all, I need a coat pretty soon here and the few places I've been have all been super expensive. Where can a get a bargain on a decent coat?

(And not one of those sissy thin jackets. I need something that will keep me warm. Like a real winter coat or one of those longer ones.)

Dongdaemun would be your best bet for a warm, reasonably priced winter coat. You could also try some of the outlets - Gasan Digital Complex, Technomart, etc

Alright, Dongdaemun I know how to get to. Anyone else agree with that suggestion? If so I'll check it out. (And thanks!)

I dropped 500,000 on one two years ago. It's the only coat that has ever kept me warm in Korea. They make them so thin here, and the thicker ones are expensive!

I got mine at CRUX. It was unexpectedly warm. My buddy was actually buying a jacket there and I was browsing while he was paying and found mine. Both of our jackets were pretty unique looking too.. nobody else with the same ones! I think mine was around 100,000 W.

Paid about 110 000 for a Helly Hansen down jacket that was on sale at the Kumkang store. Was the only one in the mall that wasn't too tight in the shoulders or around my arms. Last coat I checked, too. We were going out the door when my wife remembered to check the import section on the first floor. I really recommend you look for one. If a coat made in Norway can't keep you warm during the relatively mild Korean winters, then I don't know what will.

Check the top floor of department stores for well-known brands on sale.

Sometimes the sports stores do big 60-70% off sales.

I wouldn't buy anything at Dongdaemun unless I knew a lot about the quality of garments just by looking at them...............which I don't. There's a lot of crap there.

In Korea you only really need a serious Winter coat for about 7 days all year. I wouldn't spend too much. In fact, a fleece/sweater and cheap coat combo works best for me.

Are you looking for men or women's coats? You really need to learn to read a bit of Korean to shop online. Try searching for a particular brand followed by 점퍼 (Helly Hansen 점퍼, etc.). You'll find some good deals.

You are not going to believe this, but I bought an awesome jacket at the northern Pusan bus terminal for only 10 thousand won. My bosses didn't believe me and all thought it costed around 300 thousand won. It was in one of those corners as you enter the building from the main entrance on the left hand side. It's a really nice jacket and is the only cheap thing that I have found in S Korea so far.

You have to know what you are getting in Dongdaemun for sure. Not all places sell the knock off crap that you are referring to. I got a legitimate Airwalk lined snowboarding coat/jacket there last year for dirt cheap. It kept this Florida boy nice and comfy. Btw...I am still wearing shorts and short sleeved shirts. What's up with all of the winter gear coming out so early this year?

i got this goretex knockoff of a US army jacket in itaewon. they sell them in the surplus stores and in the stores that look like surplus stores. 100,000 won. it's indestructable and impenetrable.

they sell a lined and unlined one. i got the lined one. it does me well, but i have to layer underneath it sometimes.

Those old ajummas outside of train stations tend to have some good deals. Outside of Pyeongtaek station I saw some good-lookin' coats for around 30k. Would've bought one myself had I needed one. Almost did anyway.
