So enjoying my greasy Whopper at COEX when a little lady asked me to fill out a survey about Seoul.
Just general questions like:
would you recommend Seoul as a travel destination spot for your friends?
ME: No
what reminds you about seoul?
ME: Apartments, Han River
Are Korean people friendly? Rate from 1-6
ME: 3, but after this the lady got a little confused so I changed it to 4
Anyone else do this? if you do the survey they give you a nice little Korean manicure set at the end.

-I've done it an Incheon Airport, Bandi and Luni's (COEX) and Gyobo Bookstore at Gwanghwamun, as well as outside COEX twice. English-language students sometimes must interview a foreigner. |

I'm longing for them to publicise the survey results to the Korean nation that only a small % of foreigners here are American.
Everytime I mention to Koreans that I have never been to North America they look at me in disbelief and shock. I'm almost ready to start carrying my passport everywhere to prove it to them. Not that theres anything rong with being american, its just that I'm tired of never ending Korean stereotypes persisting.
I want to see a headline in the joong ang: NEWSFLASH: VERY FEW FOREIGNERS ARE AMERICAN! |

Funny. I bet they won't like the answers they get. |

I'm afraid I may be to blame:
I'm American, and I've done the survey 12,407 times. |

Didn't care, but she showed it anyway, it was a manicure kit. I don't like receiving a gift in that situation. |

Is that the figure? Thats not many of the total foreigner population, surely.
Reason I tend to think americans are a minority here is because most other teachers I've met have been Canadians and New zealanders.
Just bugs me that Koreans assume every last white person is american. I was out and about with German and Austrian friends last week. And yes, koreans were asking them if they were american. Must be the white skin ? |
