Trust me none in Pohang. I've seen three BMW's, one MercBenz, and three Plymouths in a year.

but why should Koreans buy cars from a country which treated them so poorly?

Because that was then, and this is now. Also, as another poster noted, Japanese cars are better.
Using logic in your quote, I would like to know th following:
Why should Chinese buy Japanese products?
Why should Americans buy Japanese products?
Why should Jews buy German cars?
And so on

You obviously haven't seen my girl friend then. Her beauty is epic like the tail of a comet and there are many more knock outs where I live (which everybody knows is Pohang).

Drakoi and Seoultrader:

Sorry about the spelling mistakes, I'm not the best speller, but hey I don't think I will ever spell s-t-r-i-p-p-e-r-s wrong again.

A Christitan told me that Korea was 50% Christian so that could well be wrong, and I totally agree about these Chrisitians that have all these budahist and confusion traditions, but hey I'm an athiest so if they don't bother me I won't bother them. What percentage are Mormons?

Things that may never catch on?

How about the ability to speak English? Bless' em for trying though.

Interest and appreciation for foreign people and things?

The idea that where a person is from matters little?

The idea that "inter-racial" relationships and marriages are OK?

Age being considered not really important.

I've seen a number of Japanese cars here but I've yet to see a left-side steering one. All the ones I see are right-hand drivers directly brought over from Japan, i.e., privately or through private dealers and not through official dealerships. Driving a right-hander in a right-side nation is not a fun mix, but I guess some people will do anything for a status symbol (or to have something different).

However, there is one major exception: Lexus. Toyota's upscale brand has really taken off since it arrived. I think the reason is clear--the nation recognition, or lack thereof in this case. Ask a Korean who makes Lexus and most will not say Japan, if they have any clue at all. Even Toyota knows enough not to market their regular brand here.

Has using the term "Jap" become acceptable? I know it's probably an honest mistake on your part, komtengi, but "Jap" is considered a pretty mean racial slur.

Very informative, psychedelic. Koreans are bad drivers, etc? Hmm. I had never heard any of that before. Thanks for opening my eyes.
