well ladies, it looks like the era of free torrents (not that I ever download anything) is over. So many sites are disappearing these days that it is unfathomable. Even sites such as TVlinks is bye bye! Shocked

They just have to move the trackers / web servers and domains to eastern europe or asia and their problems disappear for the next decade or so.

i'm not the first to say this ... but some small country will wise up to the money that can be made from running servers full of torrents and porn.

then it'll be back to business.

torrentfreaks, isohunt, demonoid, eztvefnet.org are still up ... oink will be back.

it's not dead ... yet! Smile

1. Will our accounts be intact when Oink comes back?

2. I still owe you some booze. Are you busy in Mid November or early December?

The torrent scene is growing, if anything. There are a lot of new, smaller, specialist sites popping up all the time. That's what the 'man' can't control.

When sites get too big and (in)famous they get taken down. But only in countries where the 'man' can get that done. They'll just pop up again anyway in a file-sharing neutral country.

Torrents are here to stay.......for a good while anyway.

Exactly.....I found a small, new HD torrent site. It's only 8000 users and is now closed. Luckily I found it in time!! It's brilliant. Tons of stuff, only high definition.

well, as long as oink gets to keep control of their databases (which they should be allowed to do) then our accounts will be fine. they updated the database daily.

there's growing talk that raids by riaa and other 'representative' groups aren't legal anyway ... so they could be smacked down for being unconstitutional.

... and mate, i'd feel bad about drinking your good booze when you only got a few good weeks on oink! Very Happy

btw, i agree with eamo, the torrent scene is growing ... torrents will be here forever. everyone thought newsgroups and irc would die, but they're still great sources of information (if anything, they've become better without all the wannabes in there) so i think torrents will stay.

Torrents are much too big to die. The measures that have been taken against them in last few years have strengthened their position. The half-arsed attempts to shut them down, in effect only highlighted to site owners the measures that could immunize them from shut down. The major sites these days are much more savvy as to how to operate

I'd agree. There will never be a way to shut down every torrent site. Right now I have a list of 40 to choose from and that's by no means all there are.
Very Happy

And there's always the Pirate Bay to lend a helping hand! They've already resurrected Suprnova, now...

Welcome to "BOINK!" Very Happy

Yeah really. They killed Napster but then about 4 others popped up. None had the critical mass of Napster but then you could still get what you wanted. There will always be torrent sites going up and going down.
