Ya, depends on what you are looking for, I guess...
The Apple TV plays up to 720p, but apparently has trouble with some high bitrate stuff. You can hack it to play almost everything. The menus look great and you can add more functionality....cost 319,000won.
The TVIX plays up to 1080p...I havent tried 1080, but 720p plays perfectly. The menus are pretty basic. But it costs 275,000 without a hard drive, you don't need one for it to work - you can just stream stuff over your network.
I am happy I purchased the TVIX....when it boils down to it, I am after the HD stuff so TVIX it is. If the GUI lacks a little, then its not a big deal.
From the few hours I've had it, I would recommend it. |

| As the others have said, the apple tv isn't the best option. It is expensive for what you get and I can tell you that some of the advertised features (such as photo streaming) simply don't work and haven't since it launched without an update patch which can cause other issues to arise. |

glad I could help  actually it's good to hear from someone who's bought it. I've just got the tvix mini with a 120GB hard drive, and while it's really portable it doesn't have enough storage so I'm definitely looking to upgrade. I think the 4100 will be my next purchase. |

Ok so supposing i went for the 4100, this would play all of my Xvid, Divx, Avi files as well as some 720p MKV's?
Does it have any onboard upscaling or does it leave it to the TV? |

Yes, it plays just about everything. Go to the website and check it out. http://www.tvix.co.kr/eng/
The new firmware allows you to play 720p MKV's. They play perfectly for me, although the firmware is still beta.
I'm pretty sure that it scales everything up just as XBMC does.

DIVX players are nice, but when prices are above 100,000, they aren't a value to me. I just pipe a VGA cable out of the extra port in my laptop, and can throw up to 1080i at my plasma.
Now I just need to find a torrent for HD stuff that I can join. Any ideas? |

This is where i get all my HD stuff.....Its a great site. Very very fast. They just capped the user base a 8000, not sure if its still open or not. Check quick!! I read that they were going to start an invite system in the near future.

Congrats, MKV is what you want to be playing now (and h264), unfortunately I was not able to with my M5000U (the first model). TViX is probably the best I've seen in Korea, there are probably other models that those are in Europe and unavailable here. Does your TViX play GMC videos?
The GUI can be customised in some ways though Korean media players aren't really known for great GUI :

After dealing with media players for years, nothing beats a notebook (or desktop). |

I disagree a bit. These players have been specifically designed to play high definition media. The same cant be entirely said about computers. Sure they will do a good job, but a dedicated player will almost always come out on top!!! |

I disagree a little bit 
The best thing about media players is their connectivity and having a remote, but PCs been doing that now for a while and are getting better. Media players can't play every format quite like a PC. |

I just got the M-4100SH as well. I got a 500GB drive. I forgot to get a HDMI cable...so that will have to wait. I paid 370k for my setup. I was 270k without the 500GB drive...so guess the prices for those are about the same. HDs are a bit cheaper now.
In response to why get one when you can use your notebook:
Does your notebook have 500GBs? I know you can just buy an external drive and there you are...however, what if your tv isn't in the same room as your computer setup, or not close to it anyways?
I have two portable HDs filled with stuff to dump on my new TVIX. Gonna take a while to upload.
Also for those who go for the really HD stuff like the h.264...is it really worth downloading such massive files and storing them? I tried it out and yeah the quality is sweet, but a HDTV divx is pretty clear too. |
