Yes, it was a turning point but the suggestion that Hitler invaded Russia because he gave up on Britain is not really true: he turned on Russia because his victories to that point had gone to his head and he thought he could abandon all dissemblement and go for his true goals. He had the bizarre idea that Britain was another Aryan race and therefore ought to be allies, that Russia was populated by untermensch and was destined to be the theatre of a 'world-historical' racial showdown, and he was clueless as to the great strides in industrial development made in Russia since WW1, not to mention utterly clueless as to the power of the United States whom he so casually declared war on in '41.

So he didn't invade Russia because he lost the Battle of Britain, he invaded it because that was what he'd always dreamed of doing and his whacked ideology made him monumentally stupid.
