It is a form letter from a previous employer on their letterhead or with their "stamp" indicating the dates you were employed there.

They are certificates showing the various different places you have worked and the dates you were employed...It is simply an employment verification record...At least in the United States you can get one from the employment office in most cities that have an employment office...Another fine addition to the endless list of verifications native speakers are facing because of the corruption of those who come here and wreak havoc for the honest people...

And unlike LORs, empolyers are legally obligated to give them to you if you ask for them. I have them from my last two workplaces (can't get it from the third becasue they are bankrupt), and although Pagoda was being a dick about it and tried giving me the runaround and delaying it, I still got my letter when I refused to leave the office until it was in my hand. The poor put upon office droid was angry I made her do her job? Tough shit!

If this is yet another hurdle to getting visas, I've got this one covered too. Except for the bankrupt school, my entire employment history here is verifiable with these certificates.

just ask previous employer for some sort of signed, official-looking letter saying you worked there. my current job sprung the certificates on me when i arrived. it took 3 months for China and my old K-school to get them together - and that meant i was a level 2 for my first three months instead of a level one. Mad
