Yeah, pretty much. It's hard to duplicate though, because there's a certain art to sucking at everything but not making it too obvious. That's why all the 무한도전 clones aren't nearly as popular as them.
Not every episode is side-splittingly funny of course, and it's not for everybody. I like them though.

they're quite clever at acting like retarded apes. re their "poor english," they were sorta making a point about how bad they were at it.
re the comparison with english speakers making fun of "chinamen," it's not really the same thing. when english speakers do that, they're usually making fun of how "silly" chinese sounds. when these dudes were doing it, they were making fun of how silly they sound when they speak english, due to their poor grasp of the language. quite a different thing altogether.

Gotta agree with Mith.: those guys make a living out of taking the piss out of themselves, and they are generally very good at it. Often give me a laugh.

To me it just looked like another goofy interview with an English speaker, such as this one with Wentworth Miller: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcdsxSMhqJU A totally pointless interview, in my opinion. I guess there's a Mr. Bean kind of appeal to it.. |

That was such an amateur mess of an interview. I can't believe Korean TV would do for real what was pastiched on Lost in Translation. They just spoke Korean to each other and virtually ignored him!! |

It's pretty obvious that translations were being made and were just cut out of the interview. |

| Long story short, they are still doing blackface, so awareness of cultural sensibilities is not a strong point of the media here. You could also see babtangee's avatar for another example of something that others would find offensive. I think on the balance of things that while they don't intend to offend, they often do and hide behind the claim of ignorance when they do, rather than confronting the issue. |

| Yeah, regardless of their intentions, it still comes across to many Western viewers as amateurish and disrespectful. If they're going for comedy for Korean audiences, fine. I'm sure viewers are in on the joke and know what to expect. I'd suspect---and I'm pretty ignorant of the show as my Korean skills suck---that some of the foreign guests on the show are not in on the joke, however. And, while perhaps the hosts find it funny to mock (themselves?) in English, those for whom English actually has value will probably find it less amusing. In that respect I don't think it's much different than the "ching-ching-chong" people do. I guess when people like Shaq do ching-chong, they're making fun of the way Chinese sounds to them, and finding it funny that people can actually understand such gibberish. But when Koreans do the heyyomanwhasup routine, they're doing the same thing. Were I to flaunt my poor Korean or Chinese skills on national TV, and to have no qualms about doing it, you can be sure Koreans and Chinese people would be offended. Same-same. |

No, maybe that one guy, the biggest one. Probably not him though.
They're actually replaying the one with Kim Yeona the figure skater and when she taught then how to do a spiral (스파이럴) one of them thought she said spider and that it had something to do with Spider-Man. |

One hour ago I first heard her ever, singing her second single "Pyramid" on Virgin Radio Vancouver streamed online. It doesn't show the entire genius of her voice (see the two Ellen performances for that) but it is a hit and she WILL win a Grammy in 2011, count on it. Charice:

| Oh, note to Korean music industry: Forget the WonderGirls and other formula bands and stake out the norebangs for a truly fantastic voice, though no country's artists can be faulted for being upstaged by such a remarkable voice as Charice has. A superstar to be. Not througfh hype, glitz or marketing - though all of that will follow her - but through sheer talent. |
