How is it possible? What I mean is, my last recruiter had me get my visa in my home country (USA). I didn't realize til after that some of my other co-workers got a free trip to Japan while I had to pay money shipping and applying for my visa.
Even with new jobs I'm looking at, they're saying I need to get my visa, etc.
Is this more normal? Or am I just finding the wrong jobs? I'd MUCH rather just go on a tourist visa and have my school pay for the visa and stuff instead of me. |

Visa runs are typically used for people who are already in Korea and then get hired. They can't get an E2 stamp in Korea so they make the run to Japan.
It is not really a paid holiday because you go out on a weekday, rush to the consulate, spend a night on the town and then back to the consulate the next day and catch your flight home.
On a typical visa run the total time on the ground and outside of the airport IN JAPAN is usually on the order of 22 hours. |

yeah i realized it was short like that.
but even at my last school, we had teachers that flew in from the US with tourist visas and still got their visa run.
i know i wouldnt really have time to do anything in japan, but it is nice not having to pay for the visa fees (and shipping the original diploma, etc isn't cheap). |

They don't process visa applications for free in Japan. |
