How much should I ask for?

I was crossing at a crosswalk in a school zone and I crazed parent bolted through the crosswalk. He wanted to catch the green light down the way, but in his carelessness he missed me by inches. (I couldn't see him coming because of traffic on my side.)

As he was passing my hand hit his mirror. He didn't care for that; he stopped and we shared unpleasantries, ending with him clawing at my face. I didn't lay a finger on him. Many witnesses came forward and backed up my version of events.

His version involved a zipper making three parallel scratch marks.

Doctor said that I will be totally healed in two weeks. Police interviewed me and the dude. Police are on my side.

I could press charges. Minor offense and will be about a 300,000won fine for him or we could settle this problem on our own.

Again how much should I ask for? I'm not a greedy guy. I just want money for my time, pain, and mental anguish.

if this were reversed, he'd be asking for thousands ... and saying that you nearly killed him.

since he's assaulted you and your hand was hit by the car, jack up the price to a couple of million won, then let him negotiate you down to something you think is reasonable.

You're lucky he's not pressing charges. Otherwise you'd end up paying him 40,000,000 Won for a broken fingernail, or having to clean your blood out form under his. Remember this is Korea. I guess I just look like a bad MFer cause no jackarse ever got in my face.

I don't mean to be pessimistic, but do you honestly think that you are going to get anything other than a headache out of this? I don't see things working in your favor, regardless of the facts.

Settlement is less of a headache. I settled out of court once when a pair of high schoolers stole my motorcycle 125cc EXIV. They were looking at 6 months in jail, if I didn't sign the release forms. I got a new bike out of it.

I've been through the court process, when a taxi drilled me. Only the police came on top for the careless drive charges.

Option 3 to drop it, is not an option for me.

As much of a pain in the ass the whole process is going to be, I wouldn't suggest dropping it because then the guy is getting away with almost killing someone. What if it had been a kid? I say just start high and then let him bargain you down.

I'd start at 3.0 million and let him negotiate you down from there.

I agree, take the son of a bitch for all he's worth. He hits YOU with HIS car, then attacks you over it? If the cops and witnesses really are on your side, I'd suggest you make this asshole's wallet hurt.

If the situation was reversed - and the Korean were in your shoes...

He would be demanding 10 million from you...

(He can't use his hand anymore... the facial scars need facial plastic surgery and maybe a nose job etc etc etc)...

Go to a plastic surgeon and give him the quote for 10 million - then settle on 7 million........

I am not a nasty guy either - but I have heard TOO MANY stories about Koreans doing this to foreigners - so lets reverse the situation and do it back....

we could all become rich....

The question is what is the whole thing going to cost you in terms of medical bills, time off from work, etc? My take you should get a min of 3 mil out of it.

How many days in the hospital can you spare to spend? Fake it as much as you can. You were in the CROSSWALK when he hit you... nothing he would have said could get him out of that.

definitely, and if it goes to court, after saying that he hit u with his car u can elaborate on how he attacked u. i think u'll win easily, especially with so many korean witnesses backing u up.

i'd try to settle it out of court though, but tell him about 6mil and let him bargain u down to 3ish
