I guess it is for business reasons, that's the only explanation I can come up with.

Forbes story

Click on the slideshow to get the top 20 destinations for Americans. You'll see Korea is right above Australia and Thailand (18th, 19th, 20th). Hard to believe.

My friend told me Americans travelling to Thailand can't re-enter America or if they do they go through rigorous testing for HIV...is this true?

I went there for my CELTA, came back here for a year to teach, went back to USA...didn't get asked anything of the sort.

Do you mean if you go from there directly to America?

Not sure why we'd need it, I went for the food and rich culture. Thats what we go for AMIRITE

Well, there are probably a lot more Korean-Americans than than there are Thai-Americans or Australian-Americans.

There is no AIDS testing for Americans returning from Thailand;
and nobody has come back missing any kidneys.

Yeah, that was another explanation I thought of.

In regards to soldiers, I have a feeling they aren't counted. That being said, there are friends and family visiting them.

I don't think America tests anyone for HIV that I know of. It's a privacy protection.

It would be pointless anyhow because HIV takes 3-6 months before it can be detected.

Countries can't restrict re-entry to their own citizens. Foreigners yes, their own citizens no..

Absolutely ridiculous.

Korean-Americans explain these stats easily. A good proportion visit for summer every year, with their American born children. Add Chuseok visits and business, and there you go.

Except that dude who was in limbo for a long time in a France airport after his home country had a revolution. They half-a5sedly based the movie the Terminal on his experience.
