My Korean wife recently had a beautiful baby Very Happy Very Happy

Everyone says our baby takes after me in appearance. This got me wondering. When one parent is Korean and one is English/American/Canadian/Australian/Kiwi etc. which parent do they usually take after? In the very few cases I have seen, the baby tends to look more like the foreign parent than the Korean parent but I haven't seen anywhere near enough babies to say it's conclusive.

How about in your experience (either personally or maybe your friend's baby) - Did the baby take after the foreign or Korean parent?

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

To Koreans, my daughter looks foreign. To westerners (family, friends back home), my daughter looks Asian.

People see what they aren't familiar with.

PS - Congratulations!

This is my experience as well.

Ditto the comments made by the other parents.

Expect countless comments about the "pretty nose".

Congratulations.[/quote]

Congratulations!

Adding to the nose comments,
your new bundle of joy will be praised for her rounded
skull in the back, her non-100% brown/"black" eyes, her eyelashes,
her height, and how she'll doubtless be a supermodel one day--without needing any surgery.

An interesting tidbit: a lot of those babies you see in Korean
baby commercials/advertisements are the cute products of
"mixed" parentage. Funny that "mixed" children are made to
represent Korea's beautiful "pure Korean" children.

It is nice that people say many many nice things to our face though
about our babies.
I think I'd have a tough time here if I even heard one
Nazi-esque "pure blood" vs. "mixed blood" comment about my little girl.

Have fun!

Haha I hope you're not serious?

There are plenty more non-attractive or average mixes as compared to attractive mixes (which is on par with non-mixed people), that whole idea of white+asian=beautiful, is ridiculously absurd... but semi-accepted by people.

However, at the same time, I do agree with the beauty-is-in-the-eye-of-the-beholder mantra.

Oh, it's true. About 90% of the Korean women who meet my daughter start off with, "wow, she's so pretty and so lucky. She won't need the eyelid surgery. She can be Miss Korea and Miss Canada"

Korean women are so aloof at times! (Or just the generally over-complimenting type). I don't have any children, so I can't say, but just listening to hearsay, it's crazy at times the comments made haha.

However, I don't think you misunderstood, but my point was more reflective to the idea that mixing equates to an almost automatic beauty, which was absurd.

Yup, what I said is true about the silly comments.
We hear them all the time when we go out with our little girl.
I'll hear it tonight when we get together with the wife's family.

Sorta silly isn't it.

The ugliest baby that I ever saw was a mixed baby - thankfully not mine.

If it's an asian parent and a white parent, 99% of the time the kid looks closer to whatever ethnicity the father is. I've hardly ever seen exceptions to the rule, and I have tons of half asian friends.

Black genes are another story.. they follow the 'drop in a bucket' rule, and it doesn't matter which parent is black.

If two half asian / half white people have a baby, the baby will look either all asian or all white, due to recessive genes, apparently. Haven't seen this though.

Really? Is this a proven genetics rule? I've never heard of that before (but it wouldn't be the first time I'm the only one in the dark...). I guess I'll put that in my "hmmm..." file.

My daughter (I'm male, my wife's Korean) looks a lot like me, but definitely has Korean features, too. In my experience, when you look at most mixed asian/white kids, you see the Asian more than the white, but I have one Chinese friend with a white wife, and their baby looks completely white, with blue eyes and all! Blew my mind.

Congrats and have fun! My daughter is 2.5 months now.
