At what age can you start giving your baby some baby barley tea? What are the benefits?

I know of Korean people giving Barley tea at a very young age- like 3 or 4 months. I got a box of organic barley tea and give it to my daughter, who is 3 tomorrow, on occasion. She likes it.

My wife and I make formula with barely tea. We started our daughter on formula at one month old.

It isn't cheap. My wife does some research/browsing and orders in bulk online. The last lot was cheaper stuff I think. 6 cans for 100 something.

Wow! Makes me glad that my daughter is a breast fed baby from birth. She's not had a single ounce of formula is her!!!!

Saved me loads of money.. LOL..

My baby is breastfed, as well, but my MIL insists that we give him barley tea after a feeding because "he might feel thirsty." lol~

Anyway, barley is supposed to cool the body, so that's why ppl like to drink it here, esp. in summer. I made a special effort to give it to him when he had a fever.

I don't mind giving it to him because it's a bit, er, bitter (not sure how to describe the taste). I want him exposed to different tastes, so it's nice to have something to give him besides water and breast milk all the time (the only fluids we give him).

P.S. To answer your question, I found this: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Breastfeeding-1764/water-supplements.htm

The expert said not to give such a young baby water (or barley tea, for that matter) because it may mess with electrolytes.

Can you tell me exactly how you prepare it, please? Do you think it will help with digestion?

Thanks for you help!

You make the barley tea with the barley tea bag things and substitute barley tea for water when you make up the formula. My wife thinks it aids digestion. I'm not sure if it's a fact though.

Our older daughter has grown up drinking barley tea. She has it before bed and during the day. She doesn't like soda. I'm quite happy about that.

My son is 6 weeks old. Is that old enough to give it to him?

I'm not a doctor but it wasn't a big deal for my wife making the bottles with it for our second daughter from when she was one month old.

Barley tea (of course cooled) seems to fix our little fella's hiccups. He also likes the taste. We started giving it to him at about 6 weeks of age
