Eyeball it is irony not ironing. Ironing is what you do with your clothes. So think about that next time when you get on someone about writing English.

Nope, I think he is talking about ironing.

I've been having a crappy day at work today - but this made me smile. Thanks =D

I been here since August 31. For these so called people who think they are getting along fine with minimal Korean skills, how many of you are having your coteacher help you and other Korean people helping you with life in Korea including entertainment. So before you talk, think, it really won't hurt you. By the way since you don't listen I think you need to read it again. In the Korean English language newspapers there were many complaints by foreigners (mostly foreign English teachers) about the lack of promotion and ticketing of English speaking concerts.

Maybe this time you will read better, wait do you even know how to read?

Many complaints...which Korean English language papers were those exactly? I wasn't aware that they were in the business of printing out complaints from foreigners. Maybe a letter or two...but that's not "many" complaints.

Maybe YOU need to read it again. This is not an English-speaking country. Korea is not obligated to provide English service for anything! If you don't like it, take your fiancee back home where you can get all the English service you want.

fucking whinger. Here's comes the waaaaaaaah-mbulance.

So? Because "many" others complained, does that make it right? It just shows there are other bullheaded folks here in Korea, too.

I have just a few points to make.

1) -- I dunno how many times we have to hammer this down, but in Korea, last time I checked, Hangul was the official language. There is no law that states that Korea has to accommodate us any more than they already do. To think so (and wonder why their ticket websites are not English, oh my (Beyonce, Linkin Park, The Beastie Boys and so on come to Korea to perform for Koreans, even if they are American, the show is for Korea -- do you expect to have the ticket websites in the US in all regions display all 100 languages of the people who live in the US? No. OK.)) is extremely arrogant.

A bit related, and of course, only my opinion, but I think all people going to any country should check out the language FIRST before coming. My Korean skills are not that great, I readily admit that -- but I studied it before I came over. At least enough to give basic commands, order food, and so on.

2) -- If you really were out of luck, why didn't you ask around? Ask to your other more experienced foreigner teacher friends, ask to Dave's (you would have gotten an answer), something? To complain about it now saying things like your g/f is working 24/7 and can't take 5 minutes out of her life to help you, sounds like whining ...sounds like she is pretty selfish IF that is the truth.

I just don't understand the point of your post? If I want to play an online Korean game, or send in for a money saving coupon deal from E-Mart, or shop from the full version of G-Market, or heck, even go into a store and ask for something -- I would need to know the language. And if one doesn't know well enough, ask around to anyone you can.

A suggestion and the answer to your problem: making more Korean friends besides your one unreliable co-worker ,especially early in your stay in Korea is EXTREMELY beneficial. Just an honest tip. I wouldn't ask this guy for anything from the sound of it.

I agree with the OP that I was surprised how little English was spoken here, especially coming to a large city. Obviously, they aren't going to be masters of English or they wouldn't need us to teach them. But I figured the people out in the public service sector would have at least a few hundred words that they picked up in their high school English classes.

If a store clerk can ask "bag?" and say "I'm fine thank you" he's doing pretty well here, let's face it.

This is either a typo or you speak some type of non-standard English.

We became engaged in the US. She was an international student in the US studying her Masters in Information Technology.

Oh since then someone told me about buying tickets through the USO, I don't know if it was someone here but it did work. In addition, if I can't get tickets through them, I made friends with the bakery guy in my area, he knows fluent English, unfortunately he is about the only business owner or representative that knows enough English to help me.

One thing I would like though for at least public sector employees to know enough English to help you. Examples would be subway clerks, government officials, and other governmental related workers. However, I can only wish.
