Yo, I knew Food-4-Less until they went out of business in my area.

The Hite in glass bottle is actually not a bad beer, it's much like a pilsner with a frothy head on it. It does have more head than a typical American beer and reminds me of Pilsner.

I prefer the wheat beer types such as Hefeweizen from Germany, but haven't seen any other than a few at an ice bar in Seoul which were 6,000 for a 330 ml beer. Very pricey for a beer considering I need 10 of those small stubs of a night or 5 big 540 ml bottles of Hite for only 1,400 Won a bottle.

I just discovered that my local HomePlus has started stocking some sort of Italian brew.

Can't remember the name, but it had a big and real old "Established in __" date on it, like 1478 or something, and sold for about w2,600.

I'll pick some up next time and report back, if no-one else does before hand.

Yes, Korean beer is shyte. I'd agree that Hite is the most bearable, but it is still crap. In the bars you will pay around 6,000 for any foreign beer. As far as markets, well, here are some prices:

Corona - 2900
Duvel - 4600
Moosehead - 2500
Heineken - 2900
Dark Heineken - 3600
Tsing Tao - 2600

You get the idea. I've no idea how much Guiness is because I never buy the stuff --- too expensive.

Those two are wrong. At E-mart, I was able to get a 6 pack of Duvel, with a Duvel glass for about 11,000won.

Tsingtao runs about 1,800won a can at E-mart as well.

That is really really cheap for Duvel. I looked yesterday at Homeplus and they were 4600 a bottle. The Tsing Tao is 2600 a bottle -- the cans are a bit cheaper.

When I go out to a bar I try to find one that has Alley Kat Ale --- still the only drinkable brew in Korea.

food 4 less - i used to shoplift there when i was in junior high. good times.

i don't like the korean beer, by and large, but i do find it drinkable. for the OP, budweiser (not lite) generally costs the same as korean beer at stores and bars, because they have a brewery in korea.

i also love the pbr, and when i saw it at 7-11 in hong kong, i was excited. it really tasted awesome after months of korean beer.

If you can find a Chinese store you can get huge bottles of Tsingtao for 1500 which makes it cheaper than Korean beer.

I must admit I wasn't too impressed with Chinese beer on my trip to Beijing. They all tasted remarkably similar to each other. Better than Korean beer without any doubt at all, but nothing special either.

Yep, any Asian Mart should have those. There's one down here in Busan that also sells Hanoi beer and Singha. A little more pricey than Tsingtao (around 2500 a bottle), but it's the only place where I've found Thai beer.

There's an Asian Market near Gimhae Plaza, Gimhae, that sells Beer Singha at 2500 a bottle. I don't live there, but that makes it worth the trip.
Also, if you can find a First Mart in your town, they sell large bottles of Tsing Tao for 2,200 won, but they only have it in stock about half the time.
