Does anyone have any advice or suggestions for the face-to-face EPIK interview. I am applying directly to EPIK, and I am in Korea, so I will be going to the EPIK offices soon for the face-to-face interview. If anyone has had an interview with EPIK, and has any advice or suggestions, that they would share, it would be greatly appreciated. This is my third year working in the GEPIK program, and I worked in a hagwon before that for a couple of years, but I didn't have to interview. I was placed in my current job by a recruiter, so I am afraid that I am a bit rusty interviewing. I haven't had to interview for an EFL job for a long time. Thanks. Y

I wouldn't be worried at all, especially if you have teaching experience. I would expect some questions like "why do you want to work for EPIK?" "how do you teach a class with 40 students?" and "do you like living in Korea?" When I interviewed with SMOE I was told that I would be offered a position in about a week, and the school that I'm at now (GEPIK school) offered the job within 5 minutes of the interview. Seriously, it's not that tough.

Here was my interview for GEPIK:

GEPIK: Have you ever heard of Kentucky?

ME: Yes, a friend of mine went to Louisville.

GEPIK: I studied at University of Kentucky for a year.

ME: Thats great.

GEPIK: Can you start on Thursday?

ME: So I got the job?

GEPIK: Yes, we need you to start on Thursday.

That was my interview.

The interview was concluded and then said Korean piped up "why you apply for this job, you so old?" Totally stupid, and I couldn't believe what I was hearing! I didn't get that position, but I was grateful afterward.

WOW!! I'm sorry this happenned to you! Is this woman always doing the interview, or were you just unfortunate to have had her hanging around at the time?
Any idea what her problem was other than age discrimination?

Good luck to you in your next application!

Heh mind if we ask, how old is "too old?" Curious what that could mean. I've met some older gents out here in the countryside. I'm thinking you just crapped out in regards to your interviewer.

Sorry to hear that happens, it's lame of em. The teachers that are out here for the most part are fantastic, and bring a lot of energy into their classrooms.

i did something possibly stupid.

i had a phone interview with EPIK scheduled for 9am wed (seoul time) which i somehow thought would be 6pm wed (juskajo time). turns out it was 6pm tues (juskajo time), and my phone was turned off then. got an email just now telling me this. i wrote back, apologized, and gave an alternate time.

i suppose it's not too big of a deal, but now i'm worried the whole ministry will think i'm stupid.
