|
|
Another thread here asks "where will you go after leaving Korea?" It made me think about where I went after leaving Korea (the first time).
After three years here in Korea, in the late 1990's, I went to the UAE (three years), highly recommended; Cambodia (four years), a lot of fun, but hard on a man; back home (USA) for a year and a half, to recover from near fatal TB; and, finally, back here (full cycle)!
Any others back in Korea for a second, third, fourth, etc., time ? |

I hiked the Appalachian Trail. Then I went home to Canada and went to grad school in Vancouver before returning. |

So you had a good experience in the UAE? I was talking to someone who told me he heard bad things about working there. I was wondering what that situation would be like. Can you offer any more details? |

I left in 1997 to get a TESOL certificate in Budapest. Once I had that I went to South America for a year and taught in Brazil during half that time. Then New York City for two years. Then came back to Korea in 2001.
I left again in 2001 to live in San Francisco for a year. Came back to Korea in 2002.
I left Korea again in 2004 to attend a MA program in Spain and Austria. Back again since 2005. |

Moscow for 2 1/2 years. Would still be there had it not been for a little run in with the KGB! Trying to get back, but it doesn't seem likely for 5 years.
Unbelievable city (if you make more than a teacher)! |

Left Korea in '95 and went to Taiwan, Saudi and Thailand. Returned to Korea (to boost the coffers) for three years and returned to Thailand in early 2006.
Intend to stay here, but if the bank account needs refilling - I am open to another visit . . .
UAE is pretty d*amn good compared to Saudi! |

I went back to my home, crawled into a bed, and muttered "The horror... the horror..." until I ran out of money and came back. |

I remember poster kiddirts was unhappy here so went to Taiwan and six months later came back singing the praises of Korea but a year or so later (last fall) he sold his stuff on the buy&sell forum and buggered off, perhaps for good |

Back to the U.S. for grad school. Did an M.A. in TESOL and taught in California. Really awesome.
Had no plans to return to Korea, but now I'm glad that I've come back.
Interesting thread, by the way. |

Teaching at private institutes from 2001 to 2003, then to Germany for one year to teach at a Hochschule. Germany was great for me, but my wife had difficulties settling in, so we decided to move back to Korea in 2004. |

first time went to thailand for months and then back to my hometown until it got boring, second time to vancouver bc until i ran out of money as i couldn't find a decent job being american (working visa), third time to seattle washington where i finally got residency and am waiting to start grad school . . . but now i'm back on dave's thinking about returning to korea again.
i keep thinking i'm going to be at least $20k in debt after getting certified to teach and my MA in teaching, and the reward is a public school job in the US |

Great idea if you love this and wanna teach for 40 years. Why not just come here and save cash for 8 years or so and make your own pension? |
