Not true. Both managers are ultimately below-par, although Sven is better suited at club management. The England team isn't good enough, but with the right manager they should have qualified. |
I disagree. three quarter finals is pretty good going for this England team. Along the way we had the 5-1 against Germany. We always qualified with Sven. Especially if you think of the Kevin Keegan dirge which we had to witness before. |
Yes, but you're just comparing to even worse managers. The problem is within the FA. They keep choosing the wrong guys. It's clear for everyone to see. |
yes your obviously correct. That is why Sven has been successful in nearly every other job in football he has had. Jog on. Go worship the altar of Frank Lampard.com |

What are you talking about, you arrogant *beep*? Just because you're good at a particular job doesn't mean you're good at every other one. Sven wasn't that bad, actually, but better exists. |

Yeah while you absolve the players of their blame. It was the Sun hype that destroyed Sven, looking for a convenient scapegoat who isn't our Stevie or Lumpard. Everyone else knows Sven done a decent job with limited resources |

Haha, I absolved no-one. You're good at assuming, I'll give you that. I know Sven did a "decent job". But for the money he got, I'd've expected him to do a bloody good job! |

Interesting story. When Sven was asked why England never played like his resurgent Man City team, Sven replied, "I didn't have a player like Elano".
Whether this story is true or not is immaterial. The fact of the matter is England don't have the players to compete in the current international climate. They have the heart, but are sadly lacking in technique (apart from Rooney and Joe Cole) compared to their European counterparts. Sven actually did quite well with the England team considering the resources he was working with.
The only solution for England is to completely overhaul the coaching systems from the schools up. Why do you think there is a dearth of English players coming through in the Premier League? There is a 'win at all costs' mentality prevelant in underage football in England. Coaches are preparing teams to win at the expense of inculcating a love of playing and good technique. When the likes of Croatia, with a population of 4.5 million, can constantly produce technical, well-balanced teams, it is time for the FA to realise that major changes are needed.
It will take 20 years or so to see the benefits, but it's the only way forward for English football. |

I'm not sure if this is true. Howard Kendall says that the fruits of the academy system which is only 10 years old are finally getting ripe. Maybe if the boys get the chance we could see results quicker.
Although I agree with the 'win at all costs' dads living out the dreams through their sons mentality is costing us on the pitch. If the academy's work well then the kids should be taught proper technique at an early age. |
