So a student comes into my office today to show me her first draft of her term paper. She has taken on the topic "Beauty pageants have a harmful effect on women", and she agrees with it. This is an academic essay (including references and citations - minimum three referenced sources of information, etc.). She does a pretty good job making her case that beauty pageants commercialise and demean women, turning them into sex objects than men leer over. All well and good.

Question: What is she wearing as she shows me this essay?

Answer: Hooker boots (black leather, knee-high heeled boots with a nice turn-down flap at the knee), a micro-mini jean skirt (with trailing fringe) that comes 1 cm below her privates, a loose fitting top that shows cleavage and hangs open as she leans over my desk to discuss the paper, good (but not too heavy) makeup, bright red pouty lips, and surgery-eyes.

This is the definition of irony, and she has no idea at all. Made my morning.

The definition of irony: Irony is heated metal implement invented in Korea for pressing wrinkles out of hanboks.

I would have casually mentioned it just to get her reaction.

I'm a bit confused. She agrees with the premise of the prompt, but, since she is dressed so provocatively, she can be disregarded? Since when does appearance trump content?

Not every girl dresses the way they dress for any guy or reason you can think of. In fact, there is a myriad of reasons they have for doing what they do (much like, I assume, your behavior).

In my experience and unprofessional opinion, I'd say that the irony you felt was actually a case of resentment due to not being able to fuck her.

Maybe I wasn't clear. No one was being disregarded. I was simply stating that I found it ironic that one would essay to prove that beauty pageants demean women (and, most importantly, cause men to leer) and at the same time be dressed up like a tart; judgement intended.

And to the other poster, I did think of mentioning it, but decided not to ruin my enjoyment by having to explain the joke.

I had a professor in university that taught a class about basically about sexual freedom and liberating oneself from society's Puritan mores. She dressed up in **** boots and short skirts all the time. It wasn't in order to attract a mate or ply men with her features; it was becuz it made her feel strong.

A classic. It made my morning. Oh that I should be visited by beautiful damsels wearing skimpy clothing wanting to discuss such lofty subjects. You sir, are indeed, a lucky man.

Now back to, "How are you?". "Im fine, and you?"

Last weekend I helped my friend edit a paper on the dangers of drinking and how to avoid hangovers. Later the same night she went out with her uni friends and got so blacked-out drunk that she lost her handphone and wallet.
