I'm starting to realize that I will be in Korea indefinitely, and as such am thinking about finding someone who isn't going anywhere for awhile either. I've been to bookstores but find that the women there are really only interested in free English lessons. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but I wouldn't want to travel into Seoul every weekend just to teach a lady English with no promise of it going any further. Museums have also been disappointing, as only married couples seem to frequent them.

I'm not a big drinker (early 30s and finished doing the bar thing), and I lean towards Buddhism so church isn't really an option either. Any ideas on where to meet singles, short of walking up to strangers on the street?

In Korea it's illegal for English Teachers to fraternize with the opposite sex. If you do so, you'll corrupt the minds of the children. You are in the best country in the world, and you are being paid a fortune, this should be sufficient reward for you. How dare you demand more! Another low quality Foreign English Teacher!
Now the Mormans, talk about high quality English Teachers, they study Korean, don't drink, don't bonk, and give lessons for free.
Korea needs More More Mons. I like More Mons.
My advice to you Mr Low Quality English Teacher, get your act together, and become a Morman.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but I'm glad my post was able to brighten your day by allowing you to be sarcastic.

ONE WORD..............stampcollecting. Bring thousands of stamps with you whenever you go out and eat, and while you eat alone, act like you are intrigued by each little stamp. Spend hours at the local Lotteria or DFC CHICKEN HOUSE with your stamps, bring a magnifying glass, special gloves (as white as snow * important) and tweezers to pick each one up with! And, here is the twist; as girls watch you, (each weekend in the SAME boothe) they will KNOW you are not thinking about sex, so you will be SAFE. Then, THEY WILL think about all the BAD teachers in Korea, the bad teachers who got drunk with them, who took them to DVD bangs and tried to play bad games.......BUT the mister stamp man, yeah, he is kind, he is good, he only thinks about stamps. Then, they will think about you day and night, they will know that Mr. Stamp man would never treat a woman like a toy, after all, look how he treats all of his precious little stamps. Then, one day, you will have a following. Girls in pink mini skirts and black panties will line up to talk to you, and they will want to know you, and touch your stamps,............... and to be your wife, and to carry YOUR kid on their backs, and to make YOU kimchi each year, and to POUR YOU dong dong ju, and soon you will be surrounded by thousands of koreans at a wedding hall, and they will all be toasting you, and your new wife.....and your mind will go back to this post, and you will thank me. ONE SHOT!

Well it's impossible to speak frankly on the subject becuz doing so will cause the thread to be deleted. Remember, "This is not your living room. You are only here to serve as bait for our lord and master Old Coot Dave."

Thanks Landros--good idea.

mercury--I'm not sure your idea would be helpful in my case since "bringing thousands of stamps with you whenever you go out and eat," is quite impractical. I appreciate your efforts, though (misguided as they seem)!

Masta_Don--why would giving helpful advice cause this thread to be deleted?

Make friends with a FT who has a wife or girlfriend who is Korean.

My fiance asks me three times a week to set one of her korean girlfriends up with a westerner.

I am amazed at the number of Korean girls aged 22 to 35 who WANT to date a foreigner. Korean woman are not as xenophobic as most posters here make them out to be. In fact, I've found the opposite to be true.

However, be prepared for a long courtship. The first few months you will be checked out to make sure you are not a freak. If they still like you after that, you can move on to something that resembles western dating; physical affection, etc.

If you are a nice guy, you can/will meet a nice girl here.

Your age is a bonus. There are many 30 something Korean women who would be open to dating you. It'll happen faster if you have a friend make the introduction and you guys go out on a few couple dates first.....

good luck....

Costco.

If you like gyopos, it's Costco.

If you like Korean women who like Western products, it's Costco.

If you want to meet Korean women who want to meet you, because marrying you means they can get these western products at lower prices one day, it's Costco.

Seriously, there are soooo many attractive Gyopos at Costco.

I agree with the "it's who you know" mantra. Get yourself a nice female friend who is well connected and will say nice things about you. Heck an ajumma may fit the bill nicely too. Once your friend knows you well enough and knows that you're looking for that special someone, girls should start rolling in. I know my mother has a few girls in mind if I ever give in to her and let her set me up on a date. She's desperate for me to marry a nice Korean girl who will give birth to nice Korean babies. I swear that every ajumma who gets to know me for longer than a week starts asking about my relationship status and then says "I know this nice girl you would like..."

yes. But decent guys are in short supply here, so I usually tell her to tell her friends "waygook no good" and leave it at that.....hehehehe

the last guy who I had just met a few days prior and who I didn't really know that I took out on a double date ended up drunk and hitting on my fiance' and calling the younger girl (more his age/type girl) So-Ju all night).

He ended up passed out in a restaurant at 8, yes PM.

no more match maker.....
