There seems to be a distinction between extending a visa and renewing a visa, which hasn't really been addressed on these boards or the media.

Most of us will need to get our visas extended if they were granted before we came to Korea (they expire before the end of our contracts). In short, probably one month or two before the end of our contracts, we will need to get them extended, in order to complete our contracts.

However, other people will need to renew their visa to begin a new year of work, at the same establishments. These people would require a whole new visa.

My question is that it seems that the people that are subject to the new visa regulations are the people who are renewing: what will be the requirements for people who are extending?

Same thing. When you renew, you just extend your sojourn. If your sojourn expires before your contract ends, you just extend your sojourn.

It's not a visa you renew, it's your sojourn. Visas are for entering the country.

Anyway, I wouldn't worry. You can extend your sojourn two months, and not before, the expiry date on your current one. And if immigration want you to get medical and police checks, they'll send you a letter and give you time to get them.

Just go in with your boss and get your sojourn extended if it expires no more than two months from now.
