I have an F-2-1 VISA, can someone please tell me -- can I get a tutor license? If so, where do I go to do the paperwork? What do I need to take with me? How much does it cost? I live in Wonju, can I get it here or do I have to go to Seoul?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance. |

You need the business licence from the GU-office and the tutors permit from the local education office.
It will take some running around so be patient.

Business license? Is this so I can pay the taxes? How does that work? I assume you have to have the BL before going to the local education office. How much does all this cost? BTW, thanks for the info |

Providing a service for a fee is a business. You need a business licence.
Providing education requires registration at the education office (they control education).
Your first stop is the GU office. They will line you up with the steps you need to take to register your business. They you troop off to the eduation office and jump through their hoops.
The costs should be minimal. |

I had very different experience and explanation by the Korean educational office and city hall.
I went to the local kyo yook cheong (교육청) and submitted my ARC, copies of my diplomas (previously stamped by the K-consulate for authentication), 2 recent passport pictures and filled out a simple form. Paid 3,000 won and got my license in my mailbox in 3 days.
We asked about the business license to both the edu office & city hall and both stated that we do not need one. We are not considered a business eventhough we have a name, place of business and 30 students.
All the tax office cares about is that we keep meticulous records so that should they wish to see our monies they can see what and how much. Oddly, though, is that we aren't taxed until we reach a certain point.
Ummmmm....huh? Not. Gonna. Ask. The. Logic.
Then again...
!shoosh,
Ryst
