I am looking for a university position but it appears that nearly all universities demand sealed trancripts before you are even guaranteed an interview! It makes absolutely no sense considering the fact that all E-2 visa applicants have to submit them to immigration anyway. It is really annoying because my university charges 70,000 won per set of transcripts! Why on earth do they demand them at all? Some even demand two sets! That would cost me 140,000 won with no guarantee of a job! Really frustrating.

Not all do, I happen to know of at least one that doesn't as for it before hand (the one I'm at). That's one of the draw backs of applying at a university. You can spend a bunch of time and money sending them stuff before even getting an interview and it can be a waste.

The last two years, aoround this time, I applied to dozens of universities. I never needed to provide them with sealed transcripts. I merely sent them a copy of my transcript.

Are you sure you can't just send them a copy?

I've been looking at university positions for the last month and most of them demand your transcripts in a sealed envelope. Some even demand two sealed envelopes with your transcripts inside. That would cost me 140,000 won!

My gf is having a similar problem. It's a gamble. I'd say that most will accept copies to start, but will ask for originals if they invite you to an interview.

my university only charged me $10 a pop, so i asked for 4! i can see why they want it pre-interview: it costs them a lot of time and money to arrange interviews, and they want a candidate who's ready to go, and willing to put the money down (or smart enough to get a bunch of them beforehand - hehehe)!

I've never given sealed transcripts to score an interview. I've simply emailed scanned copies to them and brought the originals to the interview. When they ask for the sealed transcripts (which I also brought with me), I ask "You're offering me the job? I'll give you the sealed transcripts only in response to being offered a job. The sealed transcripts are for the visa process."

If they have a problem with that, they are not anyone I want to work for. I've only had to walk out of one interview after stating my position like that.

What costs does it involve to set up an interview day or half day?

If they want to open your sealed transcripts that's just pedanticness and overstepping their bounds.

To the Op, tell them you'd like to comply and that your background is solid but at W70,000 - W140,000 for an interview, its just too much money and ask them to understand.
