I bought a heap of games for a playstation 2 in Australia with the intention of buying the playstation here in Korea for my kids. Do I need to get one that is modded for them to work?? and if so how much would I be paying for it. Thank you so much for any help anyone has to offer.

Hey,

actually you will need a modded PS2 that is region free, bcasue AU is region 4 and SK is region 3.

So they your games won't work on an region 3 ps2, unless it is modded.

Eddie's right, plus , Aussie is PAL and Korea is NTSC. If you have a newer tv, you can use RGB/Component cables on a chiped ps2 and have no problem.

Wow, thanks for all your help. Yes, they are real copies. So if I get a region 4 playstation all should be good? Does this need to be modded and can I get one at the Electronic Markets. ?
Thank you again

I've heard that a lot of PAL games have an NTSC/PAL selector on them...are your games on this list?

Yes, they are real copies.

Just relized how silly that sounded, I mean't to say they are real games and not copies!

jade, if you're in korea u won't find a region 4 machine. I think Spliff meant get a new (or used) chipped Korean model Ps2. You will still have the same Pal/ntsc problems though...

BUT

Yes SOME games have Pal/NTSC selectors built in, but not all do.

and some chips have a boot menu for selecting Pal or NTSC also.

I just found it easier to use RGB/componnet cables to avoid Pal/NTSC issues alltogether. These cables also give better image quality.

They look like that. The three on the left (red, green, blue) "split " the image colors, hence avoiding the PAL/NTSC issues.

Your TV set HAS to have the RED/GREEN/BLUE inputs for the cable however. If it has, your all good to go.

Ok, my TV has 3 inputs but they are yellow, white and red, does that make a difference? I am sorry, but I have no idea about these sorts of things. How much money will it take to have somebody buy and set this up for me before Xmas for my children. I'll even cook you a nice big roast meal for coming to help. (I live in Itaewon).
Anybody interested?

The three jacks(y/w/r) are for doing the std connection between the ps2 and your tv. I'm pretty sure what shane02 mentioned won't work with your tv.

http://uk.playstation.com/help-support/ps2/guides/detail/item52016/PlayStation-2-Quick-Start-Guide/

When you say "heaps of games," how many do you mean?

The way I see it, the best option is to get the modded ps2 here and hope that many of the games you have have the selector that I mentioned. If a lot of them don't, then you'll have to download them and burn them yourself. Actually, I'll do at least five for your kids(as long as I can find them on the internet) if it's too much trouble for you as I know how to easily patch them from pal to ntsc. I can also instruct you on how to do this yourself...it's a bit of work at first, but actually not that hard as long as you have the right kind of computer/burner, web-sites, and media/dvds. Or, you can buy a newer tv and the rgb cable to go along with your new ps2, which may solve most of the annoying issues, but will be more costly.

Well, I bought about 15 or so plus the Buzz thingy where you can play 4 people at once, thats why I really want to be able to use my own games. I do have a dvd hooked up to the tv with the blue, green and red jacks, can I use the playstation through the dvd player?
Thank you so much for your offer of help denverdeath, that is very kind of you,
My offer of money and a home cooked meal is still on the table for anybody that thinks they can solve my problem.

Jade,
the problem is not the PS2. If you get an aussie one it will put out a PAL signal, but if your t.v in Korea is older it will only display NTSC. So, the game will show as black and white and with no vertical hold.

I think you need either:

1.A tv that supports PAL and NTSC, and any chipped pS2 from anywhere.

or

2. A tv that has RGB Inputs and any chipped pS2 from anywhere.

or

3.A Korean Ps2 with a "Matrix Infinity" mod chip.

Note: I know the Matrix infinity has a boot menu that patches "on the fly" to convert PAL to NTSC signal , but I have never tried it, so no guarntees.

Maybe someone else here uses the Matrix Infinty and has more info.

The TV thing will work, as its what I did. Spent 300.000 won a few years back on a new tv so i could play games and dvds from anywhere no problem.

You can maybe get a used tv with RGB in cheap as these days.

I'd really like to help set you up, but I'm flat out video editing for my student's movie, plus I have made other commitments already. I'm Sorry about that, and I hope it works out for you.

OK, so I've just looked at my TV, and down the bottom it says Worldmulti- pal, ntsc and seacam. It is an old sharp tv that I bought in the Dubai quite a few years ago. Does this mean it will use Pal and ntsc and where should I get the playstation from now? here or Australia.
Again, thankyou
