| is it me or do the big english schools make teachers do a lot of prepping as if they were real universities? or does the teacher just wing it. is this possible? small hagwons let the teacher have complete freedom and not prep at all, but with the big schools, we teachers waste a lot of time prepping, is this true? help |

"Freedom" and "winging it" are not the same thing at all.
The amount of time it takes a teacher to prepare a solid lesson may vary from person to person and class to class, but walking in off the street, grabbing a book from a table without slowing, moseying into class and saying, "Hi, kids, let's see what we're doing today!" while flipping through the book is NOT teaching. If you expect to get away with that kind of crap, and your "big hakwon" won't let you, I say more power to 'em! |

Agreed. Maybe Koreans are not the only ones to blame for having lower ESL proficiency than the Nepalese. "Hey, look at me! I just graduated from my university with a degree in anything! What does pedagogy mean?" |
