| Is it true that some teachers have been stopped at immigration and sent back to their schools for leaving without proper notice? |

It was tried on me back in '95.
The dude at the airport shuffled me off to a room, called my school, and found out that they knew I was leaving early. A good effort on his part.
I'm probably a rare case. |

By "return holiday ticket" do you mean a round trip ticket for the holiday? If so then you are coming back to Korea after Christmas/New Years, you keep your ARC with you.
You only hand over you ARC if you don't plan on coming back, at least that's what I understand. If your visa/ARC is still valid then you can come and go at will provided you have the right entry permit.
The first time I was here in '02 my friend did a runner due to health issues. Her ARC didn't expire for another 8 months after leaving. Since she didn't tell immi she was leaving/not returning they didn't ask for it. She still has it sitting at her house in the states as a souvenir. |

No i meant not returning but if you are going to another Asian country I thought you have to have a return ticket? (and just not board the return flight?....)
So if you are going to pull a runner and you booked a return holiday ticket are you saying just keep your ARC or hand it in as well? |

Not sure, have never pulled a runner or contemplated it so I don't know what immi will say if you leave. I just know what she had been told/did at the time. She went through immi, they verified her ARC expiry date, handed the card back to her and waved her through. So you are doing a runner, or going home for vacation? |

If you are leaving before your visa has expired AND have a re-entry permit (or multi entry visa) they will NOT ask for your ARC.
If you are leaving before the end of your visa and do NOT have a re-entry permit (or multi entry visa) they WILL ask for your ARC. You MAY be fined 100k won if you do NOT return it to them.
If you are leaving at the end of your visa they will ask for your ARC (if they are doing their job) and you can be fined if you do NOT return it.
They don't care why you are leaving and won't stop you unless you are being investigated (officially) for something other than just quitting your job.

I'm about to do a runner, because I wasn't paid, they said I couldn't give 2 months notice, and I weren't allowed to leave. They also refuse to show me the original contract, which I signed 4 months ago, and they won't give me back my transcript. I think that, they think.... by holding my documents I can't leave. Ironically that's why I'm leaving. I've lost a months pay, but it's worth it to get the h.... out of here. I'm hoping they'll tell me at immigration that I can't return  .....Keep you posted... |

| If anyone at Immi asks you any questions just tell them that you've had a family emergency and so you need to leave, but you will be returning. No fuss, no muss. |
