				| If you are watching sports, playing video games and watch tv in a primarily darker environment go Plasma. Lcd is more expensive in the US/CAN and its only real advantage is brightness. |

				| Your parents won't notice the difference. Go with whatever's on sale. However, I would suggest going with a name brand that backs up it's products. |

				buying in Canada.

Panasonic seems to be the cheapest brand around. Parents wont be gaming or anything, it'll be just for watching TV and movies. |

I'd lean toward LCD. You might get a little better contrast on a plasma screen, but the old models had a very short lifespan, and I'm not sure if I believe that the new ones will last as long as they're claiming. Also more flexible; if you ever do want to hook up a computer or something, LCDs usually work better for it.

P.S.

Lighter and more durable too. |

				| My brother in law bought a plasma. He questioned the tech guys at Best Buys and they said that plasmas produce a noticeable shadow effect on dark colors... making those hues seem less clear, compared to LCD. |

				Plasma all the way.

Panasonic models are very good and have a lifespan of around 20 years. |
